Anyone got a photo of a Norton 4-speed gear cluster?

I need a decent close-up photo of a Norton 4-speed gear cluster in order to identify the cogs from a pile of mixed Triumph, BSA & Norton stuff that a friend has.

I'm not familiar enough with Norton and BSA that I can scratch them out of a rusty stack, although I can do that with Triumph stuff.

A good existing picture means I don't have to tear apart the tranny on my spare engine just to take a photo.

Old Britts has a detailed technical article with lots of photos. That should provide what you need?

Nope, the illustrations from the parts book leave too much to be desired, as I said.

An actual picture would be far more useful.

From the illustration, a mainshaft from a Triumph looks very nearly identical, as do some of the gears in the cluster.

Only the Triumph 5-speed boxes have the same style engagement dogs as a Norton box I think? And BSA dogs are also different. Could you post a photo of them?
 
AHA! I had not seen those photos. Still, they don't show the shafts laid out, both ends are hidden within the cases.

Nevertheless, those photos will indeed help. I'll give 'em a shot.

Keep in mind the Atlas/Dommie/N15/P11 mainshaft is different from the Commando one! :?

Of all the stuff in the Norton/BSA/Triumph mountain of parts that my buddy bought, there was only one Norton engine and it was a Commando; so, if anything turns up, it'll be the right bits.

Don't bank on it, I know a Featherbed Commando with a '54 bolt-up wideline and a lay-down box. :)
 
You don't understand - I bought the gearcase, inner & outer covers, kickstart shaft & shifter linkage for the tranny, as well as the cylinders, crankcases, crank w/ cam, and one rod, all from the same guy. As I said, of all the stuff he bought in the lot purchase, there was only the one Norton engine. He stayed with the primary & timing covers, and the head, as I already have those bits.

So, somewhere in the pile of gears, shafts and shifter forks, are the dozen or so bits I need to complete that same tranny.
 
Oh I do understand, I'm just a nit-picker :) One day someone will have to sort out all my bits and they'll find parts from 1935 to 1975 ! I wish 'em luck :D

...and as Ogri's dog Kickstart said to Malcolm when he built a 'special' - "Don't forget the Dexion bits !" 8)
