Any review on recent new frame from AN ?

Salut Laurent,

Merci pour ton input, je suis déjà en leur possession
Ludwig, qui postait sur le site avant, en a monté récemment, il a apprécié la diminution de vibrations mais n'a pas senti une grande différence de puissance. Aurais-tu aussi changé l'AAC ?

Just living 150km north from you, we might meet one day.

I've got a German bike for its Germannese (engineering, reliability and comfort) and hope to have another Egli on the road next summer. My Commando sits somewhere in between the two (metaphorically and literally). If you build an Egli too, we'll have to pressure Jerry into letting us (You, Glen, me... anyone else?) have an Egli page !!

You will have an Egli Norton or an Egli Vincent? If Egli Norton, where did you get the frame? I asked yesterday Egli Switzerland and they are not willing to do any frame for a Commando.

I'm no frame designer, but I imagine it would be difficult to mount a Norton motor with isolastics without having a very well supported front mount. Without this, the engine will be allowed to twist / pivot too much, due to the flexible nature of the mountings. I don't see how Seeley style down tubes (ie not a full cradle) can do this, and think they'd be susceptible to fracture. I would therefore imagine that your best option for an Egli style chassis would be to rigid mount the engine.
I discussed an idea to build a large Nourish powered Egli with Colin a few years ago (that's as far as the project went though) which is a large pre unit motor very similar to a Commando, he didn't have any reservations about doing this. So I can't understand his reservations against a rigid mounted Commando.
Mine isn't going to be Norton powered, so I can't help you there. There are other frame builders in the U.K. who make copies, but I don't have any details.
Maybe you can persuade Glen to build you a frame, the one he made for himself certainly looks the part!

If I understood him well, he has no reservation against a rigid mounted Commando. I just think its Egli replica is not intended for a Norton engine.

Will try that, we never know :o

For those interested in a real Egli frame, here is an answer received from them this week:

We have no frames on stock. The build of a new frame is somewhat expensive, approximately CHF 12’000.00. Around 11'500€ today. The delivery time would be around 6-9 month.

Hi All,

With regards to your question NKN, I have a very limited comparison basis re: power increase with Jim's parts. I've only been able to compare my previous engine (basic Commando 750) with the current one (same as before except for Jim's pistons -medium CR, rods, lifters and camshaft - mildest stage). I use it with a single 32mm MK1 Premier carb as I am not looking for top end power and high speed.

In addition to the very positive impact on vibrations - which was my main target - what I like is the rideability under 3500 rpm (easy to ride in town and traffic) and the strong delivery of power above 3500 and up to 5000 rpm (my own rev limit).

NKN, have a look at our pms please.

Cheers,

Laurent
