Apologies for the simple question, but I purchased a horn from Andover Norton, as well as the black triangular horn mounting bracket. The horn itself included two very thin brackets. Are these an alternate way to fasten the horn to the bike, or am I missing something?

Thank you both. I'm close to being able to rig up the wiring harness so I can test the horn before I bury it with all the other components.

Curious how loud the AN horn is? Did they give you a DB level?

I ask because I'm in the middle of replacing my mild mannered beeper with a make you see God 130 DB output that will cause small children cry.
I did so out of obvious need, waaayyyy too many detached, clueless phone jockeys pretending they are paying attention to their surroundings and the traffic.
Dual set, don't push the button unless you have your helmet on.

Yup.

Be seen, be heard. High & low together sound like a '68 Buick Electra.

I recall reading years ago that when fitting aftermarket car horns, never to modify or bend the included two piece "flimsy" brackets as they are made to allow the horn to properly resonate. Without them output will be less.
I run FIAMM Freeway Blaster II's on both my Commando and modern Bonneville. They grab the attention of even the latte sipping Gen Z'ers with face buried in a book-face posting while rolling down the road in Daddy's Buick Escalade....

Where do you have these horns mounted?
Thanks,
Mike

In the standard place on Commando, in front of SA below battery tray. On bonneville, I have it tucked under fuel tank above clyinder head.

I bought a similar set of hi/lo horns at a local auto parts store, and agree with the above (although the four-note horn on dad’s ‘65 Riviera would drop birds at twenty paces)

Then I got to thinking; it sounds so much like a car that maybe a clueless driver would be looking for the Buick honking and overlook the black and gold motorcycle he ignored in the first place.

Just went with the hi- note for now…plenty loud and irritating as hell.

And a throttle blip with the Dunstall Decibels for a lo-note. Unmistakably motorcycle.

We're dinosaurs. Today, we need to simply announce: "NOT a Subaru/Civic" unfamiliar sound to trigger the: holycrapi'mabouttogetsquishd response from slack-jawed doofus texters. Air horns are great too, but they aren't low frequency enough for my tastes. Long trumpets don't fit well on bikes.

The "loud pipes save lives" is fascinating.
However, by the time you identify the threat, decide to declutch and spin up the dump truck engine.... well, the moment has passed. Those are the easily avoidable ones.

"Getting on the horn, and going on to simultaniously check mirrors, steer/brake as appropriate" is the formula taught to me by a very talented commercial operator/instructor.
Thanks Dad.

i bought a horn years ago from old britts. supposed to be a replacement for the standard norton horn. didn't fit without some minor modification, and went belly-up within a couple months. bought a horn off amazon - got to say, perfect fit within the horn cavity, came with all mounting brackets, and definitely plug and play. about 3 years now, and still working OK - plenty loud

I got the new AN horn. Believe it’s a Bosch or Bosch clone. I find it quite loud (for a single horn). I mounted it on the battery tray
