An easy fix

Okay - so many (maybe all) will know this but...
Norton practice was to fit the anti-vibration foam pads to the underside of the fuel tank tunnel.
With my Interstate (22kg full) these pads compress quite quickly (6 months?) so replacement is an issue.
I now fit the pads with double-sided tape to the top frame tube instead of to the tank. Has two advantages:
1. easy to assess condition when tank is removed.
2. much easier to remove/replace

Okay - give me a hard time saying everyone already knows this - but, maybe this will save some grief.

I zipp tied my pads to the frame tube at the appropriate locations. Seems to work fine.

When they collapse I put the new ones over the old ones over the frame not under the tank. A bit high to begin with but a few months later two collapsed ones are same as one good one

That is what my setup has been since '08 though glued with 3M adhesive rather than zip-tied.

I just put foam pipe insulation on the frame tube, holds everything securely, cheap and easy to replace.

The adhesive-backed, conforming type insulation or the more "plasticky", non-adhesive type?

What was Norton thinking?
how much better was the alternative of having the tank mounted by rubber knobs on the frame engaging mounts on the side of tank and a screw at the rear, as per Jap bikes, T160 etc.
to me it just seems cheap and nasty

I put additional segments of foam, fore & aft. Distribute the load. No more sag.
