The ball seals directly on the O Ring. In Reply #2, I suggested using Neoprene ,(Buna N) (max Temperature = 240 F ) rather than Viton, max Temperature = 450 F, because IMO, the stainless ball seals better with Neoprene. With sufficient crush on the O Ring, it may not make a difference, but I was worried about the case of minimal crush.I have not found a good way to estimate how much crush I am getting.Slick
