If my Amal Concentric carb that is fairly new and was running just fine started puking gas all over after a short run, would it likely be some dirt or something keeping the the float from shutting off the gas supply? I have a clean tank and an inline filter so I am a little puzzled. I had just converted my adjusting screws to the easy to adjust large knurled srewhead type if that means anything.

Float but also a likely culprit is the needle valve. They are dead simple to disassemble and find the fault.

Tickler button may be holding down float a wee bit?
Make sure after flooding carb(s) the tickler has enough return to clear the top of the float.
They can be pulled upward carefully to gain some more clearance.

OK, it looks like the tickler is causing the problem. When the carb starts puking the gas, if I pull up on that carb's tickler, the problem stops even though it doesn't feel like the tickler actually moved. In normal use, that tickler is a little less smooth than the tickler on the other carb. These are new carbs so it appears they did a poor job when the tickler parts were made. Are there any thoughts on the best course of action? Does it need to be disassembled and all the burrs cleaned up from the tickler's innards or what? Thanks for any assistance on this.

Take apart and inspect. Tickler has at the most three parts, Cap, shaft, spring. If the shaft isn't spread correctly it may be hanging up on the body.

If it's not apparent, take pictures and let us know.

"Also, check the float height hasn't been set too high?"

I'm betting on that! :)

I would too except he does mention it was running ok and then started leaking. Not sure of the timing of all that.

Ugh, ticklers are tin can bent tab toy era construction, so yes can get too slack and sag on floats, but also if tightened up not to sag they don't release floats when you do, ugh. Tedious balancing task or biu a new or old one to try.
You should know the Commando new parts motto,
All New parts Guilty till proven innocent.

This can be done without taking the carb off the bike.

Remove the fuel line, undo the two screws that hold the fuel bowl to the body and take it off. You can check the float level, as the float is now in your hand. With the fuel bowl off, check the tickler for proper operation. As said above, it is only three parts - the plunger, which looks like a roll pin with one end belled out a bit, the spring and cap. The plunger is simply pressed into the cap and spring. Careful prying apart will allow any burrs to be cleaned up and the spring checked. Tickler adjustment is made by a little trial and error, getting the plunger pressed into the cap just the right amount to make an easy tickle without hanging up or falling apart. A pair of channel lock pliers with tape on the jaws makes a handy tickler-pressing tool.

So what actually is the float level. The carb is stamped something I can't read then 300 with the next line 930. I went to the link given but not sure what the float level should be.

you need the 'Viton Tipped ' Float Needles too, Little black rubber tip,

Dont F with factory spec unless up date , it leads to tears . Cleanliness is next to Godliness !
