My '74 850 wants the choke when starting. More so than I think is appropriate. Here's the scoop..
Cold start - tickle and full choke. Back off choke after a minute. Idle is stable.
Luke warm start - full choke. Back off immediately after starting.
Hot start - no choke.
Extreme hot start (this Summer it's been HOT) - no choke, but need 2-3-4 kicks. Very annoying. This is what I'd like to correct.
I'm also averaging 59 miles per US gallon. Seems a bit out of normal. Needles are at 2nd notch, mains are 260.
I adjust idle air mixture screws such that I don't get a backfire or stumble when blipping the throttle. They're at about 1 turn out now.
Idle is stable (probably due to TriSpark ignition) and throttle response is OK, tho not spectacular.
I just bought a pair of Stay-Up floats and I'm considering raising the level a tad above what I have now, figuring that it's lean across the range. Does this sound like a plan?
Thanks
