Hello good people,

Just wanted to give kudos to the site, as a little poking around with the search button allowed me to find the cause of, and subsequently cure, the clattering from the primary on my mk3 when cold. Just a dirty tensioner. Wham bam. All fixed!

Way to go James!
The chain tensioner is 'set it and forget it' once you get it set! I check mine out every once in a while when I'm in there doing something else or every other year whichever comes first. Not a very complicated part once you understand how it's supposed to work.

Hi James,

I had my mk3 primary apart 3 or 4 times to fix the leak. I knew it was coming from the cross shaft seal. After changing the seal and it still leaked, I took it apart and upon closer inspection found the cross shaft was bent and pushing the seal over, which caused the oil leak. I put a new cross shaft in and it cured my leak. It was driving me nuts!

James, btw I am from Fullerton, so is Glen from here gtsun. There is a small group of us that meet over by knowllwoods off imperial on Thursdays. I sometimes go there. It a classic bike meet

Hey Jerry!
Yes, I’ve been to the knolly woods several times! Once with the Model 18, and other times with my 850 Suzuki. I’ll try to be there this Thurs, if it ain’t too cold! Btw Baron’s my cross the street neighbor. Small world, ain’t it?
