Burton Bike Bits in the UK, sell the locking version of the Norton tank caps, http://www.burtonbikebits.net/petrol_tank_caps.htm

So I expect they will be available from other Brit. parts suppliers?

aftermarket gas tank caps?

RGM have them listed...about a quid more expensive than the non-locking one!

Shame they are all so pricey!!

£35GBP from Burtons plus postage, and you won't pay the extra 15% VAT as you live outside the EU, so not cheap, but I don't think it's really that expensive (or maybe we're just used to paying high prices in the UK?) and they are made by the original part manufacturer (Ceandess) I believe?

What models do the "locking gas/petrol caps" actually fit? I found a brand new one in a box of spares from the previous owner of my bike and of course because I do not have the required notches in my filler neck (steel 1973 Roadster) it is no use to me. I noticed in a previous post where it was stated they were not standard on any model yet, they are available from a number of sources as genuine replacements?

My 850 MkIII Roadster tank has notches for a locking cap.

I think you could cut/file the required notches in the filler neck rim?

What do you mean the notches are not in the right place? There should be just the one notch for the cap to hold on to. Is it possible it was not for a Norton although I would think they are all the same. Do you mean the recesses in the tank? Why exactly will it not fit? I'm curious as I don't want to order one & end up with this problem.

Perhaps are you thinking of the standard cap latch mechanism, and not the lockable cap?

I was not aware of the fact that in order to use the locking cap you had to change the insert. I thought it used the existing insert and just stopes the latch from moving unless you had the key. Wow glad to know this so I can make a choose before I paint my tank. Thanks for clearing that up L.A.B.

You can't really change the Commando tank filler, at least not without doing some modifications?

I thought the Ceandess cap locking mechanism used the two notches in the filler rim that dorteerts mentioned-but I'm not 100% sure?

Anyone aware of a locking cap available anywhere?

I've used the locking cap avaiable from Old Britts multiple times, Roadster and I-State tank. Looks to be the same one pictured above, but does not come with a new insert. It's always been a straight replacement with no mods to the tank required.

The key rotates the plate, it does not "lock" the latch.

I have tried my Ceandess locking cap on my standard (no notches) Roadster tank and it does not fit!
It would work with the notched filler neck as in the photo posted by L.A.B.
How do you get it to work with standard tank filler necks???

I've never noticed it before but my MkIII (seamless) tank has the notches, in fact the neck is folded differently. The other (earlier) tank is not suitable and the lip is folded outwards. Cutting a slot would allow fuel leakage as it would provide an opening between the outside of the neck (hidden under the flange but not sealed) and the inner surface.

Did they change prior to the MkIII tank or is it just these which are suitable ?
