advice, tips, tricks needed for installation of components

I am doing my first complete re-install of the majors...engine, gearbox, cradle, iso's (front and back) and swing arm...
although I am quite literate and mechanically-able, if anyone has some pointers about the procedure or things to look out for that are not in the workshop manual, it would be greatly appreciated.

let me add that I am doing the Mick Hemmings vernier iso upgrade, everything else is standard.

I recommend fitting the gearbox in the bike before you fit the engine, you will find that with the engine mounted to the gearbox cradle there is insufficient space to get the gearbox in and it's a bit of a palaver to loosen the mounts and move the engine forward a bit otherwise.

This may seem silly but the first time I changed a Norton frame I chipped the heck out of the paint I had just spent a lot of time doing. Wrap and tape a shop rag around areas you might bump with the heavy bits. If a bike is not altogether and you are just changing the engine, sometimes it is easier when working alone to fit a bare frame to an engine, rather than an engine to a frame. I've blocked an engine up a bit with wood and kind of carefully moved the frame to it.

I prefer to assemble the engine and trans into the subframe first. Then place this assembly on a raised padded surface laying on its side. I use padded blocks of 2X6, etc. on a moving blanket. Cover the frame rails with foam pipe insulations and fit the frame over the engine assembly. Install the rear iso stud and the front engine mount and turn the frame upright. Install the swingarm to the cradle.
