Ron,

Two opposing brushes connect to the terminal post, and the other two brushes to the field coil connection.

I had never heard of adding the two extra brushes without adding the two additional field coils. I have always converted to a four pole/four field starter.

Can someone explain to me the theory of why this is an improvement over the two brush motor?

I admit to being electrically challenged sometimes.
