How often does the "once a week" rider have to adjust the Isolastics ? If they need adjusting often that means they wear out pretty fast. Is this correct?

I find the last a long time, talking years here. I ride just about everyweekend, 300 to 500Kms and last did mine 2 years ago and still feel fine.

If yours need frequent adjustment somethings not right. What type are they - shim or vernier collar? When was the last time you had them replaced and did it include the Telflon Bronze shim?

I am restoring a 71 so I suspect that the originals are still in there. Some guy on fleabay sells a variation of the MK3 set that will fit the 71 without any machine work (shortning the tube?) . I have so much other stuff to buy I was wondering why not less expensively rebuild them as original and use the $100 or so on rings and inserts or the tranny I just discovered had water in it . I only ride, at most, once a week. Really trying to find if it's definately worth the extra money to install the best for an infrequent rider.

if your bike still has the original iso's the the rubber will be of very suspect quality.I would certainly change them and while you are at it change to adjusters Do not try to cut corners here .a bike with perfect paintwork but dodgy handling wont be much fun to ride even once a week. The mk3 type are definitly more handy than the old schim type even if you only have to adjust them every other year oe so .Adjusting the rear is quyite time consuming to say the least.....
Do it right the first time out
