A quick piston question

Eddie; I know pistons are tapered, just thought it was a big difference top vs bottom. And as I wrote I now know I don´t have to rebore :D .
Kommando; The reason the engine is apart is part curiosity and part the fact it has been standing still for about 11 years, and that I ´m not gonna use the frame it was sitting in when I bought it. So when it was out of the frame I thought I´d take a look at the valves and then when the head was off maybe I´ll take a look at the pistons/bore and then maybe if I lift the cylinder I can check the cam..... Which seems ok by the way. Well it goes on and on, but I will not take the crank case apart! I think....
Some say that you should always use new rings when you´ve taken the cylinder off, something about micro cracks in the surface of the rings. Any truth in this when dealing with these old pumps?

Never heard that one, if it was a problem then rings would be breaking up all the time but they don't, put the ring in the most worn part of the bore and measure the gap and then compare to wear limits, you can have big gaps and still be ok if the gaps are staggered.
