Hello awesome Norton Lovers. I am pleased to inform y'all that I just picked up a 2nd norton with my dad this weekend and it is fantastic. Its a 1974 Norton commando and runs and idles great. It is all original (I believe) and in running condition. I am going through the bike and everything seems fine. However, i am curious as to knowing whether I missed a few things? Is there any problems I should be aware of or something I may have overlooked? What I thought was cool was the steel gas tank and metal side covers. The color of them is Metal Flake blue. I am not sure weather or not its original color but I am almost certain. Let me know if there is something I should look out for! I already have a 1971 commando but this being a 1974 its a little different lol. Thanks in advance ladies/gents!

Well done, I have 5 and the phsychiatrist said I can have more.

For a photo I will offer free advice. You have a good, strong model. Originality is a virtue. My 1974 has :-

Trispark ignition

XS reed valve (lowers carnkcase pressure) There are much better ones this site.

Brake master resleeve.

Dynodave clutch seal/nut

Thats about it. Reliable as any bike.

Cheers

All original and runs idles great? In which alternate universe are you located? But seriously, sounds great, welcome.

You need to find a different psychiatrist; your current one is clearly incompetent! :)

Fireflake Royal Blue is listed in the 850 parts manual for roadster tank with color code 042. It also is is in the '74 sales brochure with silver pin striping and decals.

You have both spectrums of Commando, 750 and 850, so you can let us know which you prefer.

I am jealous. I've started looking in the Australian advertising magazines for a cheap basket case commando. Even one w hich is completely disassembled would suit my purposes.
