I currently (and only recently) own a Mk III converted to red Fastback. My brother got so excited about it he now wants one too. He has only ever owned an Atlas, a real eye ball rattler - death by severe vibration!!

We sourced a Mk III Interstate down in Tasmania in extremely good condition. I flew down, checked it out and bought it for him. I never used to much like the look of the Interstate, having owned a series of Fastbacks and one Roadster. But my tastes must have mellowed. That silver Interstate in Tasmania looked pretty bloody good!

Anyway, he plans to convert it to a BRG Fastback. Pea shooters will be the first to be replaced, though even those did not look overly bad to me and not as quiet and muffled as I was expecting. So the swap to Fastback should be pretty straight forward for him once he gathers the parts, which he is doing.

However, I did read recently that on some 850's (why would it be only some?) the rear frame loop was wider than earlier frames causing a need to modify the Fastback duck tail to fit on. Does anyone know if this is so?

Does anyone know of any other issues he may encounter? He won't be changing the rear mudguard which was shorter on the Fastback with a big back plate attached - presumably for giant sized English number plates.

I believe it should be a simple swap of tank, seat and side covers. And addition of duck tail of course.

Swapping Commando styles should be as simple as swapping girlfriends - no, definitely not that hard or complicated!! :))
Did I just say that??
Sorry Jenny, you can whip me later!

Thank you very much, that is exactly the information I was after.
The only issue is that I can not see in the list my brother's VIN
number which is 330587.
But the information regarding measurements is all we will need
to determine wide or narrow frame, when the bike arrives from
Tasmania.

Thanks again
Phil
