Hi guys,

Another carb question. I've been offered the following;

06-2359 Left side
06-2360 Right side

Needle set to 2nd indent
Needle Jet #106
Throttle valve #3
Main Jet #200

Is this correct? I want to put them with a standard airbox/pipe set up. It's for a 1971 bike.

Cheers,

Steve

See the technical section at the top of the page. That said, I am using 240 main, 106 needle jet, middle notch #3 valve and it seems to be working great. I got it that way, so I left it. My factory standard is 220 main, 107 needle jet, everything else same.

06-2359 and 06-2360 are the part numbers for Amal carbs 930/63 and 930/64. They were originally supplied with 180 Main Jets, 106 Needle Jets, 3 Throttle Slide and Needle position 2.

Sounds pretty close for a stock 750. You may need to tweak needle clip positions or mains at most. Are these new carbs? If not,be sure to go through the pilot curcuit.

The main jets are going to depend on your mufflers. A quiet set will take something like a 180. Loud ones will take 220 - 240.

Steve, if your intention is to keep the bike as standard as possible then have a go with the Amals.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with a set of second hand Amals unless you know the previous owner personally
and he can be trusted, or, they have been rebuilt completely including sleeved or new annodized slides.
OR, they are cheap enough to do all that before you fit them.
Be aware that you can't just simply fit new slides to a worn body.
If you want a trouble free Carburation system then go for a Mikuni conversion, there's been a few
going cheap in the "for sale" section lately, or talk to Jim re his PWK setup.
I rebuilt my Amals, used them for a while, then put them away for my son to inheret.
Nothing against Amals, I think they carburate very well, just got sick of playing with them.

Hi Guys,

Yep I'm aiming to get this bike as close to standard as possible. The main reason for this (since it's an Ebay mongrel), it doesn't as yet have a V5 or title.

A/C, I trust the seller, as I've bought a lot of stuff from them in the past year, so I know they'll do their utmost to make sure they work properly.

pvisseriii, cheers for that. yes they would be Mk1's.

I'm trying as hard as I can to qualify for an age related plate for the 'ye olde' black and white number plate +historic status(Pre- 1972), rather than the easier to acquire 'Q' plate for a home built vehicle. I've heard quite a bit of contrasting info regarding what is allowable for reconstructed vehicles, ranging from; Engine/Frame/gearbox are the only important parts....To; Everything must be original, less what they consider consumables ,such as tyres, cables, nuts and bolts, etc.
Again I've heard pretty much everything from; "It was pretty straight forward" to "It was freakin' impossible!"

So...I'm just aiming to give as little ammunition as possible to them rejecting it.

Also I've still got to check with NOC to find out what trim the bike left in...Tho I'm not sure if that really matters? Ideally, I'd like to put the bike in to 'S' trim, after seeing (I think), Dave's bike in that picture of it next to a stone wall.

Sorry..I'm starting to ramble here. I've got the parts to put it into either roadster, or Interstate trim, running with standard peashooters. So the jetting would be for that. Would running 'S' pipes be any different?

Thoughts?

Be aware that if you use the 'S' type exhaust, the 71 and newer front fender is larger to accommodate a larger front tyre than was used on the 69/70. I have been in contact with Nick Hopkins at Andover and sent him the dimensions of my bridge which is a full 1" shorter than the 71, they had the drawings for the stays (25540A) and are currently producing the narrow guard for the 68 Fastback, but it had longer stays by about 1/2" (060619). He says Andover is going to start producing the stays and bridge for the 69/70 so those that don't want to worry about the front guard fouling (under hard braking) in the S exhaust can do so. But you will have to use a smaller front tyre, I've got a 3.00-19 ribbed Avon Speedmaster, I'm not sure what the largest tyre is that will fit under my guard, but I can just fit my pinky (3/8") between the tyre and the nut from the stays.

According to my Riders Handbook for the S and Roadster (http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg28 ... 0Handbook/), they don't differentiate between the S and Roadster as far as carb settings. Book settings are Main Jet 220 and Needle Jet 107.
