I obtain a aftermarket fiberglass Fastback sidecover (Plate #2) that did not have a bracket mounted. Does anyone in the Forum know where I can obtain one? Anyone happen to have a picture how metal bracket mounted to the cover? Thanks for any replies.

Hope this helps. This is my 71. Not sure what model it is. Not sure if the mounting is correct. This bike has been changed some and repaired with function in mind. (Prior to me getting it)

I bought a bracket from Commando Specialities for my 71 roadster. Looks like with the fiberglass cover it would be best to rivet or weld it to a backer piece and then pop rivet that to the cover. They have them on their ebay store for about 15$.

Here is a picture of how my steel sidecover is mounted. Plastic zeus clip at bottom with 2 eyelets at top.

This is correct for pre-'71, but '71-'72 uses the standard battery box and oil tank from the Roadster. The side cover mounts like the Roadster and Interstate covers.

Ron, I think the pre-71 (Roadster and S) had the removable dzus fastener panel on the right side, fixed on the left side with a bolt, spacer and nut because the ignition switch was in that panel. At least that's the way mine is. Plus the pre-71 had the central oil tank, not the side one unless it was a Fastback or R model, then all bets are off.

I wonder if the panel we're looking at is a R or Fastback panel? Then I'm totally uninformed or un-knowledgeable.

That bracket is available from most Brit part dealers. Instead of using the rivets, I drill the bracket and panel then use two small button allen head bolts with nuts to fasten it. I think it looks a little cleaner than the rivets.

Here is a couple of pictures of the fiberglass left sidecover I'm inquiring about how the bracket is attached to the sidecover. Have a piece of paper indicating the area. Thought someone out there in the Forum would have a photo. Thanks.

Get the bracket, mount it on the bike, place the panel in position, outline the bracket on the inside, remove and start drilling. I'd never trust a "standard" location for the bracket when doing this.

t.h. The Side cover you show is 68R or 68-70 fastback only these models came out with an oiltank that doubled as the right side side cover, the 69-70 S Roadster had a central oil tank specific only to 69-70 roadster-S, The 71 and later commando's have a comon oil tank with a bolt on side cover, the sidecover differs between models bur mounts from the same possition/oil tank.

Inside the cover in the upper side you can se two steel hal circular bridges.
What they need?
What is the way to mount this side cover?: with lock nut rotor down right to the battery tray, and then?.
Ciao.

"builder" gave the best advise. The brackets are available although one I bought is more for steel side covers...just long enough to drill holes for pop rivets on a fiberglass cover. Fit the bracket to the days on your bike along with the side cover and mark the cover where the bracket needs to fit. I had a '71-'72 fastback body work set on my combat a few years ago. The cover you have has the two holes at he rear for this model year which is correct. I sold the entire set a few years back as I found I prefer the roadster look.
