650 update ??

Was looking at my calendar today to plan stuff and realised that it’s just over 6 weeks till the NEC bike show.

Which got me thinking, are Norton gonna get 650 production up and running prior to that?

It’ll be awfully embarrassing for them to turn up with the same pre production display bikes as last year ...

Apparently there's a 'Norton Atlas update' in MCN next wednesday....o_O

I presume you’re referring to this:

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/3398136

It seems to have been petitioned by DHL, a last bid attempt to get their bills paid I presume.

Unlikely to result in actual bankruptcy I would imagine. Unless the bills are genuinely unplayable, Norton will agree some kind of payment plan.

Stuart best get that cheque book out and pay what they owe DHL.

There may be a perfectly good reason for not paying DHL, a company I worked for withheld monies equal to the damage DHL caused to a delivery they picked up on behalf of a customer. They then proceeded to up end 5 pallets of engine parts, scooped them up with a shovel and delivered them. Dispute dragged on for years.

If DHL are collecting duty and VAT on behalf of NMUK to pay the various revenue collectors globally for import and exports then it could be a different story. This has been brewing for some time looking at the dates of the petition and just look at the rest of the history in the past 10 months, then he has had plenty of time to avoid this, but then again he is very lastminute.com. Why can't the holdings company bail out NMUK and just pay it, or is that empty too. The next question is who else will jump on the back of this petition by the court date.

Does not look good for the 'The export champion' that can't pay his shipping bill. This is either his problem or the staff around him not advising him or informing him correctly about these issues. A big announcement to seek investors and then this, come on, really! it does not sway me to part with money and invest.

The US court caught up with Calof in the end, in a farcical court case which Calof lost but still walked away without paying a penny or should that be cent. Calof went to many lengths to deter many getting hold of what he thought he had, if he was that convinced it was his and the trophy he wanted to keep and sell at a later date for far larger sum, then he would have paid the sum the court awarded the defendant in an earlier court case and kept the trophy - but he didn't, ask your self why or trawl the subsequent US records.

Hi guys,

Norton had a long dispute with DHL over duty charged on imported components that were built into complete bikes and then exported. This action was settled in full last week and by mutual agreement the action was stopped last week. We continue to deliver more bikes month on month and are about to deliver the first of the brand new 650 Atlas models. Our new 15,000sq ft production facility is having it’s internal fitting now and we look forward to increasing our production vloumes again as we move into the new facility.

Hope that clears things up!

Simon

Hi Simon
Is it possible to ask a direct question,
My 2016 961 Hunts at tickover, started at about 5000 miles
Turn off ignition and it will clear for a while,
If earth leads are disconnected with ignition on it will clear it for more than a while ...
But it always returns!
What do you think is the most likely cause.
You are now my nearest dealer which is a 400 mile round trip.

Thanks in advance.

Good question to the boss mine does the same. 17 months ago went to the factory to have a re map which did not cure it only to be told you are 3 days out of warranty and I would have to re book. 200 mile round trip so doing my own repairs were I can.

How come so many people are so negative about the Norton brand?
I cant imagine this would be an easy feat.

Taking an iconic brand and bringing it back to life. Sure Kenny Dreer designed a lot of the 961 model but it was Stuart that brought it to market.

Completely designing 4 new bikes in the 650 and 1200 models and going through all the testing, engineering, designing. Not to mention the staff, manufacturing, facilities, supplier, regulations, tools and machines needed to do so and not to forget the emission testing.

Sure people at Norton come and go but what company doesn’t have employees move on? I’d be more concerned if Norton lost Simon.

This business of building bikes is a highly competitive business to be in. Especially when when you’re a minnow in a pond full of Carp. In my opinion Stuart and Norton are doing a great job.

It all takes time and money friends.

I agree, it is a great effort by SG and all at modern Norton to bring these bikes to market.
The probable reason why many are negative is that the bikes are not yet “at market” unrealistic promises give people a hope that turns to frustration and anger as deadlines are missed, communication goes unanswered and potential customer feel ignored.
The 650s were promised for delivery by mid Sept, as you can see the new unit is still not yet kitted out and build has not started. The SL was due for delivery “in summer 2019” to date I do not think any have been delivered to customers.
The quality of build is good but the communication, missed deadlines and after sales backup and support are what turn people off.
John

Edit:see Den #31 above for one of many.

At a time they seem more concentrated on selling 961's to the Indian's and the Asian market than producing 650's. trying to spin all the plates at once is not working, why can't they see that. Why sell 200 V4's when they could have concentrated on the bread and butter 650's that are in demand and sold 10 x the amount of numbers than the V4, sadly I see you 650 customers at a bottom of a pile after the 200 V4's and the 4000 kits he has to supply to India. If they concentrated on one thing at a time and did it well, producing a product that is reliable then there would not be so much negativity and more customers and potential customers would be more tolerant, sadly that is not the case.

Hardly any announcements here, owners kept in the dark, but it seems the Indian press is awash with announcements. Looks like the rest of the world market is second best in Norton's eye's. With Mr Garner and Mr Skinner taken director positions in an Indian company - no secret it is on the web, if that is not split loyalty, I don't what is. Make your own minds up

As per Jan Nelders post above, AN have taken the key to a 15,000 square foot unit on Sept 1st, stripped out the offices, re-arranged the reception, racked out, completed the electrics and packing benches, installed the IT and move in next week. Why is the big green building still waiting. Suggests to me they don't know what they want to do with it yet, assembly, make up kits, or just storage, so I doubt they have any firm date for the 650 deliveries to start. Despite all these posts, there has not been an update on the 650's, assembly start week, delivery week etc. nothing. Do they have a plan covering the next 24 months regarding the 650's obviously not.

I would very much like to see new Nortons that are the number one choice for bike buying customers to consider buying, but even with my rose tinted specs, I can't see that.

So no, not negative, just being realistic.
