I have a 500t and i am having issue with my clutch slipping/engaging when shifting and will pop out of gear. Small amount of oil in the case. (coffee can under her when she is parked) but i have cleaned and reassembled still having troubles. What are some next steps into fixing this issue? I am assuming the oil is playing a role in this just like the commandos, but i am not sure. Parts vendors that can supply some older single parts?

Re: 51' 500t clutch issue

When the bike is running, I get it into gear and i start to ride i shift 2nd or any gear it grinds/pops going in or wont go in. or if it does get into gear it will start to slip under light throttle. Not sure how else to describe the issue

Re: 51' 500t clutch issue

Not going into gear without pops and grinds is indicative of insufficient release movement.

Slipping under load is indicative of worn friction plates, oil on plates, and/or insufficient spring pressure. (all three in common or individually). One other possibility is the release adjustment is holding the clutch partially disengaged.

Slick

Re: 51' 500t clutch issue

Thanks for the replies, i took the cover back off and found that engine oil is leaking from the Output? shaft that the sprocket sits on.

I had ordered a manual for singles but got lost in shipping. go figure
My next question is:
Is this a common issue for engine oil to leak from the shaft into the cover?
What is the best way to go about this?
Doesn't seem to have a seal from what i can see behind the sprocket, do i need to completely tear down the engine to replace?

Thanks

New to Nortons/motorcycles so i am learning as i go.
