Does anyone know where to find (good quality) 3/8 drive 6 point BS/Whitworth sockets? I have a 1/2" drive six point, but they are too large to get to most places on the engine. I have a set of 12 point 3/8 drive, but they are cheap, and I am relictant to use them more then a few times, lest they round hard to find fasteners.

Also spanners?? Again the set I purchased doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in longevity.

I admit to induldging in a bit of low quality purchasing, but they were what I could find and figured that if they worked once it would get me through the building stage, which they did.

Look for thin wall sockets, Some of the cheap ones have very heavy walls that don't fit in some places.

Ko-Ken makes 3/8 drive, 6-point standard and deep socket sets. Do a web search for koken whitworth, and you'll find something. I have a set of 12-point, and its a pretty decent quality, IMO.

The best bang for the buck is the Koken brand sockets. They have thin walls and easily fit the middle three top head bolts and nuts without interfering with the fins. Something my Snap-On and Brittool sockets do. For wrenches (spanners) I like the Spanish made Acesa combination set.

The one problem area will be the nut between the carburetors. I have a Heyco brand thin ring (1/4 Whitworth?) closed end "obstruction" wrench that is perfect for this. Unfortunately, I don't think they make it anymore. I also have a thin ring Triumph wrench that I found somewhere that works well here. You will probably need to take a standard Whitworth or close fitting metric wrench and grind it to fit.

Can you still buy STAHLWILLE tool in the states they used to do a good range of BS sockets and spanners, the sockets were a bit fat but the spanners were nice to use, Ko- ken sockets ,Britool spanners, hard to beat combination.

I agree, Koken sockets are a good value. Acesa spanners haven't been mentioned yet and they, too, are solid tools.
