Well, after 2month of the road with a complete strip and rebuild after the 2 BE nuts came loose, I started the engine for the first time last night. Missed the first kick then while putting the kick start in position again, I notice some crap on my hand and the kick start rubber. It smelled Hmmmmm animal shit. Not sure what variety but some little darling must have buried their load amongst the firewood swarf, And I happened to walk in it.
The engine started [ after the clean-up ] on the next kick and seemed to run ok. Asked my son to help with checking the timing and then noticed it wont rev above 4000 because of a miss. It ran well before it stopped last time and it has gone back together the same. Had to retard the exciter on the cam shaft a wee bit to get the timing plate in the middle of it's slots. I know the valves are set correctly and the timing chain is in the correct place. Must have bumped something while doing the Ludwig head steady mod.
Oh well, something else to ponder. Its pissing down outside so no riding for me on the 750.

Rainy season not so bad here as other places suffering, only lost a dozen or so cattle trying to cross creek, some homes and families but major biker hwy23 The Pig Trail has collapsed and closed but stil plenty of the Harley thunder cycles out and about before the utility type BMW riders dare venture into it. The Madision county off road racing had to be shortened from 8 mile to 6 and parking area moved d/t mud feilds last week. Deer and big rat shit are pelletized and don't smear and stick so must be a racoon or stray dog adding to your Commando crap. Any who an unloaded Cdo engine even on bad tune of half a carb will rev to red line so suspect ignition timing being retarded &or connection in head steady area harmonizing at 4000 to quit conducting like a rev limiter. Loaded ride limited to 4000 would imply something stopping fuel flow if the ignition holding its own.

Well, after lots of pissing round and round and round, and redoing a lot of unnecessary repairs, I finally Diagnosed failed Boyer when it died completely. Ordered a new Pazon from Andy just now. Made in NZ so has to be good eh.

Hi Steve, I have enough Earth wires connected to sink the Lusitania.

Here is a list of what happened.
1st ran but only revved to about 4000 rpm while attempting to set timing with light.d
2nd wouldn't go at all [ found faulty power connection ]
3rd, seemed to run like a dream. [ that's after dong a complete check of EVERYTHING, and replacing a leaking float bowl, which had not been leaking before AI touched it.
4th started once and died
5th would not go
power supply ok. no spark when ign turned on , or when sender wires touched.

Blaize, you are right. You do have to fix one thing just to have the privilege of fixing 2 or more things.
All the best.

Ps I see the roads between here and Wellington have opened up again. Taking the Land Cruiser down next week for some R & R.
