Looks good! Unfortunately I don't have the space to fit something like this on the kneeler sidecar! I may look at improving the oil tank breather from a vented cap to something more substantial. Also considering an oil/air separator...

I forgot you highjacked the original thread. I also assumed you had a regular bike and not a racing sidecar. Racing changes everything, a lot less leeway that just putting around the road.

I kind of figured you couldn't use the actual parts in the image I posted. I posted them to let you see how the early system works, so you could apply a similar "top hat" breather feature to your own tank as a possible solution, if you want to go that route. The system is proven to work, and it makes sense to run the breather line back to the oil tank to recapture the oil, rather than a catch can since quite a lot of oil exits the bike through the breather.

With the breather line going back to the oil tank, If I plugged my oil tank vent exit, Oil will come out the cap, because the combination of splashing oil and pressure pulses in the tank means the air and oil have to go somewhere...

Good luck... You should post some pictures... We probably all want to see some Norton sidecar racer porn...!

Thanks for that. I will try and post some pictures if the admin allow. It is a sidecar rather than a road bike!

Yeah, sorry about that. Some forums ask that you do not make a new post on an existing thread, so as the talk was about the Commando 'breathing' problem, I thought I should tag along. Irresponsible of me not to mention the racing side...

We’d actually love you to start your own sidecar thread! Call it “Sidecar!” :p:D

But there better be pictures!

If you look at the solo Atlas oil tank there is a froth tower fitted to connect the oil pipe from the left hand camshaft timed breather. Maybe there was a reason Norton did this.

In those days they didn’t rebreathe the fumes back to the air box.

Well, have pictures sorted, and about to start a thread, but there seems to be no way of uploading any pictures!

Any hints or advice?

One way is to become a VIP member. Then you can host the pictures on the site.

The other way is to use an external host.

Here's how I do mine but there are other suggestions in this thread.

Ah! I'll need to upgrade to VIP then...

You really want to position the breather as close to the engine as possible to reduce the risk off condensation/emulsified oil build up, HNW for one show the valve fitted Close to the oil tank, but this isn't ideal...
