I phoned British Spares this morning and they still have sidecovers in various colours $125 NZD each.
Al

I got a mail this morning that the are shipping a pair in fireflake bronze. That is definetly not the colour I want for the bike but I don't really want to respray NOS covers.

So just as a hint: They might still have covers with this colour. Maybe I'll make moulds and do some GRP laminates myself or would trade against a pair of emerald green ones.

EDIT: Hm, now that I think about it, was fireflake bronze an option for the 1970 models? I hope they didn't send the later covers......hm.

I figured I would bring this thread back up to help keep the info in a relevant thread.

I am trying to figure out what decals are correct for a '70 Roadster. I am going to get my bike painted Fireflake Roman Purple, but I want to get the right decals for it. What color would be the decals and do the side cover decals just say 750 Commando or is their something underneath that. In my Riders Handbook that came with the bike, it shows Commando overtop of 750 and then it looks like maybe an R next to the 750? It also shows black looking decals on a lighter colored tank and black outlined decals on the side covers.

Side note: When you do a Google image search for " norton 1970 roadster 750 commando " a young DogT shows up on the 5th page :D

I'm thinking the 70 decals were pretty much all the same. As far as I know it came in Yellow with black decals, Fireflake blue, red and green with tank decals black with gold outline, panels gold with black outline and a gold logo on the seat back. Look at the brochure here http://www.classicbike.biz/Norton/Broch ... chures.htm

The S came with panels showing Commando 750 'S' in 2 lines and the Roadster I think spelled out Roadster in 3 lines. Don't put the panel decals on parallel to the top of the panel, parallel to the ground.

The R and Fastback had different panels, so the decals are different too, I think some did not have decals on the panels.

I didn't find my picture with the google?

1970 Roadster references and detail pictures?

Simular to this black decal with gold outline in tank and gold decal on the side panels.

Old Britts has the stick on decals, much like the original, however you cannot paint over them. I got some paintable ones from a fella in NZ. If you need the numbers for the decals and the name of the NZ guy, let me know. The NZ decals will have to be paid for via Western Union, the prices are good, I got a double set for about $30 I think. Only thing is the Old Britts decals have a more metallic gold color than the NZ ones which is a printed gold color, not metallic. I think it would be best if you could find someone who would paint them on, then you get the best of all worlds, plus you can use a metallic gold paint. It would cost dearly though.

Wow. That S is freaking beautiful!! That color is amazing!

I will check on the Old Britts decals.

Tintin,

I recently bought a repro seat from R.G. Leighton www.rk-leighton.co.uk for my 1970 Roadster, and am very happy with it. I have not got anything to compare it with, but it looks correct to me. I will post some pictures of it on the bike in a few days; I am out of town. There are some photos of the seat at www.britcycle.com/Products/norton_seat.htm - and I would like to give them a plug; they kindly referred me to the manufacturer when it became evident that the shipping cost to get seat from Canada to NZ was uneconomic; I suspect that for you in Germany it will be more efficient to purchase direct from the UK too.

I did have one initial problem fitting the seat; the stalks which attach the seat to the frame appeared to be too short; I had a pit in my stomach thinking about making replacement ones for a couple of hours until I realised I could fix the problem by bending the middle of seat; which I did with a mallet. Nice to actually be able to achieve something with brute force.

Dog T has already posted good photos of the battery carrier and correct oil tank for this year; I have attached a couple of them in situ; I just happen to have these shots on my phone as I took them to have as a reference for my wiring before I put in my Sparx alternator and regulator a couple of weeks ago.http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt5/ ... deview.jpg

What color is the tail light fairing supposed to be? I am guessing Silverish by the couple of pictures I have found. Anyone have a nice up close picture of one? I assume one could just get their black one painted?

It's metal flake silver. MetalSpecks silver is a real close match unless you have a pro do it with real metal flake.

Metal flake paint models had the silver taillight fearing, plain colour i.e yellow and black had a black taillight fearing.

MetalSpecks is a Duplicolor spray can paint. Not bad for the price. Needs clear coat.
