I'm having problems keeping the Norton badge attached to the fiberglass rear fairing or tailpiece on my 1968 Commando. The original got lost, so I bought a new one on eBay but the shop that does my work used a glue that ruined the badge. I ordered a badge from Andover Norton, but it was a flexible piece of plastic with a self-stick adhesive. It flew away on the first ride using it. So I've ordered a new plastic badge on eBay for $40. How can I safely attach this to the tailpiece without ruing the badge and so it never comes off?

I used silicone gasket goo such as Loctite, Dow Corning or Permatex. Shower & bath silicone sealant works just the same. I have used this method on many badges on bikes & cars for thirty odd years. It works.

silicon can work very well on a flat surface, and you don't need a thick base of it. on my t100 Daytona I used a good double sided tape to stick the tank badge on and its fine, stick on Velcro is good as well.
the fail safe if you can keep it still why it dries would be 2 part araldite. good luck

3M VHB clear tape..........

I worked for 3M for 35 years and there are a number of VHB (Very High Bond) trim adhesive tapes. The best are adhesive all the way through. One important thing to understand with these tapes is that they need to cure and actually get stronger as time goes by and if they are exposed to the heat from the sun. If you put the part on the bike and drive it right away it will likely fall off. This might be what happened with the Andover Norton part. If you need to drive the bike right away you should put some masking tape over it for a couple of days.

That's a good tip. I fixed a number plate on with 3M VHB tape & it fell off. I'll know what to do next time!

5 minute araldite cures quickly, as the name suggests. Not as strong as the 3 day cure version, I think it holds 75 kg compared to 140 kg. Should be plenty strong enough for a badge. ( 1kg = about 2.2lb)
