1967 P11 with a color matched front fender

I inherited a 1967 Norton P11 that I'll eventually start restoring, but for now I'm just doing some research.

Most of the pictures I see of the P11 show red bikes. I have a green P11, but it seems like a different green than the few examples of green P11's that I've seen.

So I wondered if the bike had been painted this color sometime after it was new. This theory was shot down for two reasons:
1. The brother of the previous owner (now deceased) said it was always green.
2. My bike has a color matched front mud guard. Most P11's I've seen have a chrome mud guard with stays.

I don't have the tank yet (it's still entombed in the place where this bike sat for 30 years).

Please take a look at the pictures and provide any insight you may have.

Update - so I haven't even posted this yet and I'm second guessing my theory. On closer inspection, the fender is affixed with hose clamps which is my first clue that it's certainly not original. I suspect the oil tank was paint to match the fender. I guess I'll know more when I get my hands on the gas tank.

Also pictured is a fender that came with the bikes I received which may or may not belong to the P11

Thanks!
John

Have a look at the: 'P11 Daily Rider' thread.... Most there 'as original'
P11 front mudguard (fender) had the bridge on the outside, the one shown maybe Commando?
Yours would have had high level pipes and short seat too :)

Painted what I used to refer to as British Racing Green after the fact. Fiberglass fenders are not OEM for the P11.

Looks like clip-on handlebars. My guess is it was modified to appear like a cafe racer at some point.

Rear hub is not original, but a nice one to have.

You have some work ahead of you if you plan to restore it. Good luck.

Thanks for the info Schwany!
I appreciate the insight on the chrome fender i have possibly being from a Commando and was impressed you spotted the rear hub being different. That would explain the extra wheel I got with the bikes.

This P11 is 1 of 4 bikes I was bequeathed and it's in the worst shape, so I think I'll leave it until last. I have enough restoration work ahead of me to last the rest of my days.

Thanks EstuaryBoy. I got mixed up just now and thanked Schwany for the insight on the possible Commando fender, when I should be thanking you. I have a 71 Commando that came with this P11, so it likely goes to that bike. The P11 in red is fine looking and I'll have a tough choice when the time comes to decide on a color. But that's a long way off.
Thanks for the reply

I've never seen an original green P11. A few blue ones, but most all were candy apple red. The chrome front fender is definitely Commando and the rear wheel is a Triumph conical hub.
The frame and oil tank is early (hi-pipe) P11.

I would very much like to see an original green P11. I have heard/read that green was one of the colors you could get, but nobody seems to have seen one. I will probably still paint mine green anyway...
