“WHICH PARTS FROM OTHER BIKES FIT THE 961”

Hi,
the head temp sensors have the same thread but the the feeler of the differnt sensors. is not the same.
One is 8,5mm thick and the other only 6mm.
In the latest E4 engines have only space for the 6mm version.

I can't get those , not available to me in the USA . If you have a source please post it . The 150C version should be more than enough range based on my findings .
Just found what looks like the one on RS Components site, Jumo PT100 sensor, I think Radio Spares, as was, is worldwide.

Hello Panetone , I didn't know this. So the hole in the head is smaller but the thread is the same. In this case the Euro 4 cannot use the Bosch or the Honeywell ?. These have 7.3mm probe diameter with M12 x 1.5 thread . But the older machine can use the Jumo with the smaller diameter probe tip. So far I am happy with the Honeywell or the Bosch.

Presumably the sensor pocket was drilled dependant on the sensor fitted, air gap minimised etc. Something to be careful of but hopefully solved with care, ie hole reamer.

In that case , they must stick with the JUMO sensor with 6mm probe tip if they have a EURO 4 ? Or drill out the hole a small bit . Funny thing is I remember that when EURO 4 first started and I thought the JUMO came later . Well it makes sense then that the JUMO will fit the earlier machine.

Speaking of the head temp sensor, my bike ran great all winter in my 40 to 50 degree F temps. Now, went out in the low 70s, bike hunts, delays in dropping from 2k to 1200 rpm throttle off. Sometimes hangs up for 30 seconds or so. I usually have these quirks in the summer and rarely in the winter. Its a Bosch blue temp sensor. Think that's the problem? I do have that white throttle body gasket but never installed it. Bike was running fine when I got it.

Speaking of the head temp sensor..........

I'm sure I heard that the plastic Idle-Air-Control-Valve can be affected by heat, causing it to stick, and that the additional gasket would help in that regard by providing some insulation between the throttle bodies and the cylinder head. If you've got the gasket anyway it's worth a try.

Ordered that part, in transit to Aus as I type, have also purchased a crimping tool locally for the stainless O clips.

Thanks for your help TonyA

Arrived yesterday, apparently here is AUS we don't trust shipments from the US so EVERYTHING sits in Quarantine for 14 days to ensure "bugs n the like" die. Fitted it.

I HAVE A THEORY !! (relates to posting a lot about my crank exhaust blowing oil)

Been looking at the manual and Richards07's awesome Oil system guide/oil pathways. If i'm right I have a theory that the filter might actually serve a second purpose. Lets say the Oil pump is pulling from both the oil tank and scavenging the crank case, how would you increase the flow from the scavenge..... Well that's right you'd put some kind of restriction (or a 30 micron filter perhaps o_O) in the oil tank line right ???

My CF has all the other check valves and ugly oil catchers (and they are working) but did not have this filter......... My issue has boiled down to weak scavenge or Oil pumps duff....!! fingers crossed this filter (restriction) works.

Is this the in line filter screen you purchased from USA that you are referring to ?

Yes Indeed.

Looks Good Bro ! , Better than the Norton black one.

Well, been out twice since I fitted the filter, no oil in bottle after both rides, did hear the gurgling from the oil separator, that's obviously got oil in and when the motor's shut down flowing back into sump.

Not getting my hopes up as I have thought Id nailed this a couple of times before but looking promising.

Spoke too soon..... DOH !!

3 hour ride round the coast with mates, 3 stops around cafe's etc. got home.. easy 150ml if i were relying on the pissy little Norton bottle i'd be off the side of a mountain road by now.

Sorry to see that.
If the motor is blowing that much oil out, clearly there is too much lube collecting in the sump during the engine's operation.
The scavenge pump should prevent this.

Tony,
Is there any way to check the scavenge channel in the engine for blockages or a partial blockage?
I suppose the sump plate could be removed to check the gauze strainer for trapped debris.

No easy way . Have a look in there I guess. Measure the oil that's returned to a container for 30 seconds compared to a standard . Is Bluey72 over filling ? New Long stick with the knurled section , not filling past the knurled area ? Drain all oil out of sump right before next ride., measure it .. Start with a clean sump check oil stick before riding off. Leave bike parked for a week , no starting/no riding , drain sump after a week measure the oil . report back.

Swapped to a Thiel Motors long dip stick with the knurl, oil is generally stable at lower to mid knurled section. (had to buy a Thiel one as the AU Norton guys could not supply the "kit" with a longer stick)

Ok so "generally" speaking if i crack the sump nut how much oil should drop out ? being dry sump are we saying like a few 100ml even ?
