Is that a Dellorto pumper?

Could the cross member behind the head tube be modified into a curve or V shape, so you could tilt the motor forward a little and mount through that frame location? It would require modifying the gearbox and rear engine plates among other things. Not sure if that would be legal for racing or work with the rest of the parts. It would sure be different though. Almost downdraft.

On the frivolous cycling: I never leave my garage anymore on a bicycle. All of my cycling these days is on a trainer bent over a road frame. MTB riding was a butt kicker when I was in great shape. Haven't done it for years. Electric bicycles did not exist when I was doing it.

One nice thing about cycling is I can cold kick start a Norton 750 without much effort at 71. I do 1 hour on the trainer get in 22 miles pushing for 23 3 times a week. Not over doing it not under doing it. Great exercise for building endurance and it translates well to riding a motorcycle. Also helps some with keeping the weight down.

I did enjoy MTB action on the isolated single track. When I rode I rode where hikers were few and far between. It was many years ago, and that may have changed some. I was never a fan of the mud. I quit pushing myself on MTB right about the time the bikes were getting light weight and had carbon fiber frames. Instead of riding off road, I started taking pics of the young bucks competing. Much easier on the backside.

It is a Dellorto but not a pumper, we are not allowed pumpers. It is the exhaust that is the problem, I could tilt the motor forwards and use the engine without a front mount, but the exhaust port is directly inline with the frame so I need the clearance given by the vertical motor.

We have good countryside round here so I like to get out on the bike (Google the Peak district), it was just a bit too much so close to having Covid, seems to be getting easier now though.
 
I see in the States, it may be possible to buy front sprockets for the Triumph box in 520 chain size, that seems to be more difficult here, so I decided to reduce the with of what I have.

These things are very hard and not easy to alter.

I wondered if there was a class where the ES could race with a pumper. Some kind of formula unlimited class for example. I don't know racing though, so just blowing smoke. I had a Dellorto pumper on a Rotax 605 in an off road bike. Thats the only reason I recognized it might be a Dellorto.

The pipe hitting the frame would be a good reason not to mess with tilting the motor forward. No sense messing with success. Beautiful bikes and probably fun to flick around on a racetrack.

Not yet Nigel, I have mocked it up so I can send some pics to register it with the BHR and CRMC. They have released the regs for Brands Hatch this morning, things are getting tight.

There is no piston in this, so it is back on the bench now to make it work.

Does anyone know how much and what grade oil the Roadholder forks need when fitted with Maxton GP20 internals?

I cannot find this info anywhere.
 
I will answer my own question as I have just rung Maxton.

5W oil, Putoline or Motul factory line.
150mm air gap with the spring removed and the forks fully compressed.
 
I've always taken the springs out & used a 140mm air gap to start. I know I used Putoline but cant remember the grade.

I was yes.

I may name this bike the Torrey Canyon, I am sure there was more oil on me than in the engine. There has been a breather fitted to the plate that covers the pushrods at the top and I didn't fit a pipe to it, so that is an understandable leak, there was a fair bit coming out of the bottom of the pushrod tubes so they need some kind of a tablet, that should calm the leaks down.

Noise testing wasn't without problems, I went without any baffle first and it failed at 108db, I then fitted a Supertrap end with a 50mm hole in it and failed again at 106db I then fitted a end plate with a 40mm hole and it passed but they didn't say what the reading was.

The exhaust sticks out too far where my leg is and this makes the footrest too short and my foot kept slipping off. It went fairly well apart from that, I got to within 4 seconds of the Seeley's time and feel there is more to come. The handling feels better than the Seeley at first impression so if I can get a few more horses from the motor it is good to go.

Actually I need to get it to run again first before I go chasing ponies, in the last session it started to cut out, I pulled in to change the plug for a new one and managed half a lap before I was pushing it back to the pits, I think it is BTH mag related but haven't had time to look yet.

The lack of time is related to running round to get a test on my van, the realisation that the test had run out was due to being asked for my documents by the driving instructor that I had just run into at a roundabout. His student set off and then stopped, I didn't, totally my fault of course but the annoying thing is the DVLA have been taking the money each month for the vans tax whilst the test had run out, they usually send a message saying that the van cannot be taxed because it doesn't have an MOT, they haven't done that this time. It passed with no advisories, but I don't think that will help.
