Wideline rear wheel nuts

I’m sure I’m overlooking something stupid but the chain adjusters are quite far out and clash with the hex of the nut rather than the plain diameter section. I have some alloy nuts as well as the original nuts and it’s the same with both. See photo.
A thick washer on the inside would not leave enough thread engagement.
I can make some nuts with a longer plain section but would like to know what’s wrong. Thanks

I have a quite original '57 and the nuts have a much wider round section for the adjuster to bear upon.
 
As hhh said, they should look more like the pic below, Andover show them in stock.IMG_5928.jpeg
 
Must be that the ones with the bike are not correct. I’ll make some. Thanks for the photo and info.

Throw the alloy nuts over the fence.
