Makes little sense to me Jean, considering the vast distances in Canada, and the limited range and long charging time of electrical vehicles.
Also from an environmental point of view it still does not make much sense, most electricity today is still generated by coal and oil, but unfortunately , when it comes to electricity, many people do not look beyond the socket on the wall.
Electric cars were around more than a century ago, and most of the negative acpects of a century ago still apply today, no matter what the politicians try to tell us.
Here in Québec, 97% of the electricity is produced by hydraulic dams, none is produced by fossil fuels. Some may not like the fact that the reservoirs take up forest land, but the reservoirs take only a tiny fraction of the territory. We have 40% of the hydraulic resources in Canada with over 130,000 rivers and more than 1,000,000 lakes, all fresh water. The province of Québec covers twice the area of Texas and is about equal to Alaska so taking up "unused" land for reservoirs is not a major problem.
Being retired I do much less than 100Km per day, some days, I don't use the car at all. Only when I go to see my brother in Toronto or friends in Québec or in the Saguenay do I need to cover more than most all electric cars can do in one charge. My plan is to give my current car to my daughter and when I do need to travel far, I will just switch with her for a few days.
I am looking past the plug
