Had mine done on Monday, bloody hell it hurts, they had to replace the tendons on my kneecap so the new ones came from my thigh.
thank god for cocodamol n short term tramadol.
I have a brace on my leg as I cannot bend it for 6 weeks whilst load bearing oh effing joy.
3 months before I can think about riding a bike again. So I may be around for a while 😄👍

Wow that sucks!

Cudda been worse tho mate… cudda had it done in May…!

Take it easy, do as you‘re told, and hopefully you’ll have a full recovery.

I feel your pain
I had total knee replacement just over 18 months ago of my right knee
Sounds like yours is more complicated than mine
I managed to get COVID two weeks after the knee chop!!
I'm surprised about not being able to bend your knee for six weeks they went to work bending mine immediately
I was recovering at my girlfriend's house and she took me home after a month, mainly to check on my bikes
I could not get my foot on the rearset of my commando not even close
On my t160 I could only just get my heel to the foot rest ,no way I'd be able to ride it
I clearly hadn't done enough exercise
When I got back to hers I really went for it, doing all their exercises and some
I took my belt off my dressing gown wrapped around my ankle and pulled it as hard as I could take regularly
I bought an exercise bike and used it mainly to get movement,I couldn't do a full revolution first of all
Only backwards and forwards stretching my knee joint but once I'd done a few revolutions I was away
The over thing with the cocodomol is take laxatives or you'll never shit again!
I'd flush the tramadol down the toilet personally
I was on 8 a day
Anyway it does get better best of luck with it

Cheers Baz, I am worried about the lack of bending. But if I try I will snap the new tendons. Hence a slow process

Talk to them about it
But above all else make sure you do all the exercises they give you and some
Tendons are a bugger to heal for sure

Are you sure this isn’t just an elaborate rouse to justify fitting an E start to ‘my’ Harrier ?!?

Seriously, I am yet to enjoy joint replacements, but I have broken seven bones, with associated joint trauma. So have learnt a little about joint recovery.

Our NHS is brilliant. But they‘re there to fix us up to an ok level, they’re not there to pamper us like getting David Beckham match fit. We’ve been a bit spoiled into thinking it wrong to pay towards our own recovery, which is wrong IMO.

My point is, I believe it’s well worth investing in some supplementary extra physio therapy. I’ve got a couple of permanent issues that are 100% down to not having proper / adequate physio care at the time (like 30+ years ago).

Then there are supplements to reduce inflammation, promote blood flow, etc, etc.

And finally the elephant in the room… alcohol does NOT help your body recover / repair itself. It hinders it. As well as increasing your risks of tripping / slipping / doing something stupid. Jus’ sayin’.

A couple of years ago I had three eye Ops (not fun) and was told I’d lose sight in my right eye. I quit alcohol altogether and went to town on the supplements, like twenty tablet / capsules a day!

I didn’t lose my sight. Consultant said he could hardly believe it and was the most impressive recovery he’d ever seen.
Coincidence?
Placebo?
Maybe, maybe not.

Correct, addictive and stops the healing process as told to me by ward nurse when recovering from surgery.
I carried it for emergency, riding very fast snowmobiles deep in the Maine/Quebec/New Brunswick woods. Severe trauma could be met with half a day to get out to a hospital.
Luckily, it wasn't needed.

Thanks Nigel, you have sussed me out you bar steward. LOL i do like the idea of additional physio as my wife went to the physio last week and he said he get a few patients who have used the same consultant as me

Just checked my info from physio Baz and i am allowed to start bending to 45degrees with the brace on within the next 2 weeks as long as it is not load bearing. let the pain commence

You'll reap the benefits of pain now rather than the pain later
My neighbour had a full knee replacement
He did none of the exercises,he lived in a lazyboy chair so he didn't have to go upstairs at all
His misses waited on him and that was 4 years ago
He's lost his job and has restricted movement
He's younger than me

Good luck with your recovery -sounds like you had a complex surgery. While I have never had joint replacement I have had tendon repair after being injured by kickback from a table saw.
A 1” square piece of white oak shoved up and into my right arm , entering just behind my wrist and crushing the tendons against the ulna bone . Like you my arm / hand was immobilized for a period of time and I wound up with a frozen shoulder. 6 months of therapy for my hand and shoulder. Ask your medical team if there is anything you should be doing for range of motion on your other joints while the knee is immobilized. You do not want adhesive capsulitis in your other joints. By all means do your therapy when the time comes - it is the only path to gaining full use of the limb .
I’ve been married to a physical therapist for 45 years and one of our daughters is an occupational therapist so there is no way I could avoid therapy.
I have made complete recovery - full use of my hand and shoulder
and no permanent loss of range , strength or dexterity. If it weren’t for the skill of an excellent hand surgeon and the rigorous therapy my right hand would likely be just an ornament.

Been following this with a lot of interest, my right knee is giving me more and more problems as time goes on and I'm sure I will need a new knee sooner rather than later. Luckily all my bikes are electric start now .I'm pretty sure that kick starting big twins has contributed. Best of luck all you who've had the surgery.

40 degrees this morning. Soon as wound has healed I shall be in the garage as the norton needs a new gearbox sprocket seat. I put it on the ramp before my op 👍👍
