TikTok Fined €345 Million Over Child Data Handling
Ireland's Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has cited numerous breaches of data privacy laws committed by TikTok between August and December 2020 for imposing a €345mn ($370mn) fine on the Chinese-owned platform.
TikTok said it disagreed with the decision as most criticisms, including setting accounts for under-16s to “public” by default, are now irrelevant given measures taken before the DPC probe began in September 2021.
A second investigation looking into possible data transfer to China is ongoing.
