T140 center stands

I have two T140s sitting in my garage...1978 & 1975. they have identical center stands and appear to bolt up to the same spot on the frame. On the 75 it raises the rear wheel about one finger off the pavement. On the 78 I can put all 4 fingers + under the rear wheel. I realize the front wheel is the one elevated etc.... So what is the difference? Nothing is obvious.
Could I cut a section out of the stand and weld in a supporting piece? I think it is cast steel. Weld mild steel to it?

The 78 has 11 5/8" shocks. Too short. The 75 is 12 1/4". Hard to imagine that distance would translate into such a huge difference at the rear wheel. I have a pair of junk 12 7/8 shocks I can try and see what happens.

A "1975" (K 'year' date code) T140 would be extremely rare in the USA.
Due to the Meriden sit-in, the relatively few 1975 T140s built between March April and June 1975 were 1974 specification with right-foot shift and manufactured too late to have been sold on the US market.
