It does for a bit then meets one of the electrical wires and follows that ( or so I suspected)I have heard of them leaking if the oil screen is not properly seated in the recess inside the filter body. Wouldn't the oil follow down the hose and leak down by the oil pump ?
I'll check that nextI’ll bet it’s the starter gasket.
I'll check that next
You are running the trans/primary vent hose ?I'll check that next
I amYou are running the trans/primary vent hose ?
Yes thats it in a nut shell. I'll open it up and try your method next time I have a chance. If it's the o-ring in the strainer that is leaking, the oil drools down the lower strainer canister, onto the lower hose, then on to the the oil pump body, and onto the crankcase when bike is tilted resting on the sides stand, and finally migrates onto the engine sump cover.
Been there, done that, got the tee shirt.
I found that you have to carefully center the tiny, crappy o-ring in the canister before slowly and carefully screwing the lid back on to the canister body.
Had to do this several times before I got it on properly were no oil seeped through the o-ring.
A good fix would be to buy a package of various size/thickness o-rings and find a slightly larger one with a thicker band so it would be self centering in the canister body.
Consider this another character feature of the 961.
You have been gone from the forum Richard , good to see you here again .Well I met Stuart2015 at the temporary factory unit he was having that very item replaced, same reason .
I not got one , did feel I was missing out !
How do you know?Thank goodness the starter is OK !
When I read this , I thought Spiermoor had found the oil leak problem . :How do you know?
I have oil pooling up on the crankcase behind the cylinders. The source I'm 99% certain is the oilscreen. No matter how much I tighten it eventually leaks again. I guess the O-Ring is shot. Has any one else had this issue?
I did. Norton had a replacement on the shelf at their temporary location in Derby. ‘Blue Roll’ diagnostics helped me identify where the leak was.
I agree - my 2013 Sport had starter motor leakage issues initially.I’ll bet it’s the starter gasket.
Thats a good idea !
Mine too. They did major surgery on the cases first. Still leaked, but I got a new set of rings out of it. The started itself leaked, not the gasket. Internal O ring. Thanks to Matt Capri. He told me that. Norton sent a new started, no more leak.I agree - my 2013 Sport had starter motor leakage issues initially.
I was told that an early batch (2013) of starter motors had ‘not been produced to factory spec’ which had resulted in an internal starter motor leak. Starter motor was replaced and the leak was fixed.Mine too. They did major surgery on the cases first. Still leaked, but I got a new set of rings out of it. The started itself leaked, not the gasket. I don't have that filter on my 13 Sport.
