Hello,

Just purchased a 2014 Norton and noticed the tank is starting to bubble. Anyone know if the tank can be lined and repainted or is it a goner once the bubbling starts.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think anyone on this forum has ever attempted to repair a 961 tank. Mine had several blisters, and was replaced under warranty by the Donington factory. The 961 tank is a nylon/plastic material, not like the old Commando tanks from the 70's that were fiberglass. The classic tank repair kits are designed for fiberglass, so I don't know if they would work on a 961 tank.
Is the tank leaking? If not, then I would say just keep an eye on the bubbles for leaks, and save for an aluminum replacement tank if or when the tank does start to leak.

The tank is not yet leaking but it does have two nickel sized blister on top and two tiny one forming on the other side.

Planning on purchasing a TAB tank.

There's really no alternative unless you can source a replacement on ebay (sometimes they are available), but no telling if the replacement will not blister at some point.
Right now the TAB tank is the best option, and they are beautifully done.

Good to hear a review on the TAB tank as that’s probably the way I will end up going.

Definitely a (big) TAB fan and they are reasonably priced however, not sure what the options are for repainting? Decals can be had for 60 USD and even an expensive paint job is likely to come in cheaper the going aluminium - if you prefer the original look that is.

DOH! It's gonna bubble again………. stupid!! I don't know, is it? Gotta be ways to stop it right; brains trust?

Thought ‘bubble’ only, I’d go ‘ally-B4-enamel’ any day!👍

I wouldn't bother trying to paint it and invest instead in a TAB II 961 tank. I would keep the plastic tank as a back up on the shelf in the garage where it belongs . He lives in England so even better to deal with TAB II .

I've been exchanging emails with Richard over at TAB. Decided to invest in one of their tanks as I plan on keeping this bike as part of my collection for a long while. Thank you for the recommendation.

Can you tell me more about the TAB ordering process, please? Looking at these myself

Garner isn't a part owner of TAB? Conflict of interest and all that. Fits with the person. ;) ;) 🤣

Hi Kev , You can probably do it all with email . But seeing you are in UK why not just call and order one ? I didn't have to even give a down payment , just "we will let you know when its ready" .

All you need is on their website Kev:

Richard is your man for technical questions. Only real choice to be made when ordering is the placement of the Monza Cap.

Great product - great small business to deal with.
