Screw the customer?

The question here is "is there a right to repair?". Does the seller have the right to cripple your
purchase unless it is regularly maintained by the maker only? Was this specified when the deal
was signed? Should this be legal?

The tough part is, it's liars poker.

"Sure, it's open architecture! You just didn't enable PWE. Not our fault."

Sooooo hard to enforce.

Many years ago, it was elucidated as "Planned Obsolescence", so the factories were sure to have future work, as were all the dealership workshops.

The ISO9000 definition of 'quality' is 'fit for purpose'. It does not mention ' obvious attention to detail'. In globalisation, quality is assured by mutual recognition of certificates. i,e, each country manages it's own quality management systems' audits. ISO9000 is implemented through treaties and by customers showing preference to certified suppliers. In Australia, the contents of our Free Trade Agreements are secret.
I live near the main railway line from Melbourne to the rest of Australia - many freight trains roll past every day. A very noticeable effect can be seen, if you visit our local council tip. What is being discarded, has obviously failed in service, very quickly.
So Australia exports raw materials to Asia, and the raw materials end up in our council tips as failed products.
Basically the problem begins and ends with the ignorance of leaders. Our leaders are usually people who do not know how to do things - many people simply take things for granted. It is always somebody elses' worry.

ISO 9000 is a bad dream, dreamt up by greedy Captains of industry wanting "passable quality" goods built cheaply so they can get richer doing nothing to add value to a product.
It's a corrupt mess.
