Round Timing Cover Badge

What is the secret to removing the round timing cover badge (1957 Model 88), preferably without damaging either the cover or the badge?

I've heard of several folks who simply protected it while they did everything necessary - like polishing.
They figured if it was glued there that strong, it might be better to leave it there.
?
Are good new ones available these days also, that could be a factor in what you do next.
If they are irreplaceable, be careful ?
