Been discussed here before.
I think the conclusion was that none have known to have survived, unscathed anyway.

And note that one pictured is a little different, in many areas, from the publicity pics
that appeared of it back then.
The fairing shown is also rather plain, sans the original striping/lining.

I'm surprised more replica's haven't appeared, it would be more roadable than the JPN cafe replicas. ?
And considerably less shekels than the monocoque replicas...

If I posted in the previous discussions, I don't think I was aware of the name of the bike or exactly what it was. I've tried to blow your picture up large enough to read the specs. - without much success. From what I could see, it looked as though the frame was the multi-tube space frame. Is that correct ? I was under the impression that construction was only used for a couple of works bikes.


I have found the previous discussion. I think what has thrown me was the year of manufacture of the Thruxton Club Racer - 1975. I didn't think their racer development went as late as that. Where did you get the photo of the spec. sheet ? Can I get a decent copy ?

I was at Jurby on the Isle of Man for the classic TT about 3 years ago and there was one there. The frame is subtly different from a Commando and the whole machine is smaller, so one does exist.
 
A few years ago one of these was for sale at the "Coupes Moto Legende" in Dijon, France. It was bought by Italian guys, probably for the "Collezione Milanese".
A guy from Belgium called Philippe Verschueren has one in as new condition. He regularly posts pictures of it on the "Norton Commando" closed group on FB.

It would be a bit fragile for serious racing these days...

Sounds like there are a few around then, coming out of the woodwork. !
That collector in Spain with the huge collection of racebikes is sure to have one also ?

You realise that the exhaust system mentioned in the other topic ' production racer exhaust' apparently came off one of these bikes, so perhaps the remainds of it are there somewhere ? It might be a worthwhile exercise to get hold of the frame and copy it ?
 
Thanks for that. Seems that the ordinary Commando frame was used. I once looked at those with a view to building a second bike, however decided not to go there. What tossed me with the previous photo was the fairing mount looked like another frame tube. I wonder if anybody has used a Rickman or Rob North frame fitted with a Commando motor ? I have a photo of an Egli Commando, however the rear of it looks flimsy.
 
The frame is definitely not Commando, similar but only just. That was what caught my attention in Jury
 
The bike Philippe posts in the Commando Facebook group is indeed an original TX 750








He says in one of his posts that less than ten were ever built

And like the man said, whilst Norton wanted £1500, I built a new racer myself, based on a Rickman chassis and MKII 850 cases with ex factory parts, for around £1200 and after I had started my build Yamaha offered it's TZ350C for £1200!

Had they done that a few months earlier, I would have gone for the TZ!

I never did discover how I might have bought the TX750 racer, even though I hung around Norton deaalers and knew people who worked for the factory!

Mick Hemmings raced a Rob North style frame with a 750 Commando motor for several years. The frame was the normal Rob North design, but with top tubes spread apart to accommodate the taller twin. I posted some pictures and info about the "Northton" somewhere on the forum a while back. A friend of mine raced a Rickman frame with both 750 and 850 Commando motors for many years. I also posted some pictures of it somewhere here on the forum. Both were quite successful in their day.

Well...of course the anwer is yes...you saw Kens post about the Miles/North Commando done by Mick Hemmings, as far as Rickmans go, a lot of the Rickmans still around have the motor leant Commando style, but mine is vertical... and some of the frames used were originally destined for Triumph motors, which limits your engine placemnet options.

Which is what Rickman did, because the 95 frames they built specifically for Norton twins were intended fo Atlas motors, their factory plates held the motor vertical and as far forward and low in the frame as possible, with different lugs to the Triumph version and a 'dent' in the right down tube to clear the timing case.

First of all thank you for accepting me in your group,I am Belgian and lives in Thailand for more than 30 years.
I have a small collection of British bikes 4 Commandos and 3 Triumphs,one of the Norton is indeed a Tx 750 .
By looking for information on the net I was astonished to see a picture of my bike on your site,this picture was shared on a closed FB group,I was never asked or informed about this picture sharing to Access Norton Commando.
I think a small message to me about this sharing would be à minimum especially that I know your site I surely would agree,right now I would ask your administrator to delete the pictures except for the first one and the news paper article.Another thing I don't understand is that members can't post pictures of their bikes in posts I guess it would simplify many technical explanations.
I am riding and working on Commandos for more than 45 years and used to be secretary of the Belgian Norton club in the seventies the President was in that time Paul Cassiers.
