NEW NORTON ATLAS MOTORCYCLE

Cliffa, I'm not knocking Triumph at all & I absolutely agree that they've made some nice bikes. I've owned a couple of Hinkley Triumphs myself in the past (both of them 900 triples) & really enjoyed them. How nice looking something may be is highly subjective of course & that Triumph looks great to me, it's just not as different relative to some other bikes out there as a 961 Norton is that's all.

How much do you think a 961 Commando and 961 Dominator weigh wet?

Well, mine had no cat, much lighter silencers, Shorai battery, etc. Not an insignificant reduction, and according to my ‘one wheel at a time on the bathroom scales’ method, it was 499lbs, with an almost full tank. Without the weight savings, a box stock 961 must be well over 25-30lbs heavier.

If my maths is correct, Norton claim 391lbs for the scrambler.

So whichever way you look at it, and even allowing for somewhat optimistic claims for the 650, you’re in the region of a 100lbs difference.

The Superlight, with Ti pipe, is another 60lbs ish lighter than that. Allegedly ...

Norton just published a photo of a pair of the Atlas Rangers in the Scottish Highlands saying ".... ahead of first UK deliveries next month".

If they are due to deliver 650's next month why could they not say that 3 months ago. It suggests they have still not got a production plan in place.

Much like the Twitter photo of 'plenty of more frames and swingarms' I would not call 8 frames on a rack plenty. The 4 bikes on the ramps where in no logical order or build state, there was not anyone working on them. If I was a V4 customer who has been along time waiting I would be well pissed off with that photo of 4 partly built bikes and no one beavering away on them.

If they want a lesson on how to build using assembly stations and dedicated teams start to finish, then they have to visit to the RNLI factory in Cowes, they even taught the USCG a thing or two.

well, let’s see a pic of the assembly space please!
Considering the recent tweet showed a shell, no lighting, no power, unsealed floor, and at the time still they were uncertain what it would be used for. Unless they have had the magic fairy fitters in, just where have these 650's been built that will be delivered next month, which starts this Friday. So, there could be new 650 owners next weekend, though I won't hold my breath. Also, if they can say 'next month' they should be at a stage advanced enough to actually state a date, has anyone been called to inform them of a delivery date?
Might be worth asking Norton Motoroyale PVT or Kinetic Engineering India maybe they have the dates that NMUK don't have.

Can you imagine setting up a motorcycle company and running it for 10 years against the stiff competition but surviving and expanding and bringing on new models. Maybe they have upset a few suppliers along the way and stretched the cash. Bloody amazing if you ask me. Hats off
