I am 75 years of age and I now believe that I have seen the world as good as it ever gets. Electric vehicles have no soul. It is like comparing computer games with motorcycle road racing. I never play computer games, even though they are cheaper.

But of course you really know what will happen, our GOVT will follow suite even if its a stupid idea and there is still plenty of oil and do you think oil campanies will lay down without a fight and what will we be driving or riding a bike with a small necular reactor under your arse, the greenies are slowly winning.

As I read the original release in the UK press, I figured the ban was just on new vehicles - existing vehicles will not be banned. The title of this thread reinforces my understanding. By 2040, it won't matter to me so much, as I'll be 99 years old if I'm not wearing a wooden overcoat and pushing up daisies!

I think it is a good idea. I've come to realise that during my lifetime I have probably seen the world as good as it ever gets. What we did with motorcycles as kids, will probably never happen again. If is like fighting wars with Supermarine Spitfires and Messerschmidts. It happened and we have got movies about it - now we move on and do something else. Nostalgia is for the people who can remember. Things such as the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy race at the Goodwood Revival and the Landsdowne Cup are very precious. Will our young guys fight to preserve them ?

It's not a black and white issue. Electric cars still need electricity! Yes, some, like the Prius harvest electricity when braking, but this is a token gesture to the whole needs.

This was recently written in the U.K.:

"The grid recently warned that, by 2030, electric cars could require 3.5-8GW of additional capacity, on top of the current peak demand of 60GW.
By comparison, the nuclear power station being built at Hinkley Point in Somerset will add 3.2GW of capacity to the system.
By the middle of the century, when it is assumed almost all cars will be electric, that extra peak demand could be up to 18GW".

In other words, we may need to build an additional 6 nuclear power stations to power these cars!

Not saying it's right or wrong / good or bad, just sayin' it ain't so simple...

...and I eat breakfast pancakes once every three years or so...
