Gear box drain plug length

Hi all first post, I just wondered if anybody knows the thread length of the gear box oil drain plug , as I would like to replace it with a magnetic one to catch any nasties.

The gearbox oil level check plug (fill to spill) , is the exact same as the drain plug. If you remove the fill to spill , measure it and you should not loose any oil …

If you find something that works, please post. I've got a magnetic plug on the engine side but have never seen one for the tranny. I'll bet lots of us would go after one.

Will do, shortest I can seem to find is 15 MM , tranny plug is only about 10 mm long , will let you know after the summer when I change the oil , also have gold magnetic plug for engine after oil pump issues , strainer ,non return value and new oil pump fitted by Norton, all seems fine now though.

M14 is the engine sump plug size.

This is the same size and thread pitch as the over flow plug but is 15 mm in length, there is another magnetic plug around ,gold type, but 19mm in length . When I drain the tranny I will check if 15mm is ok in length .

I have changed the engine oil sump plug for a gold magnetic one with a traditional hex head already , no issues.

Just found this website for magnetic tranny plug, just need to find out thread pitch for engine and i'll order both.

Hi Stratos , good find thread pitch is 1.5 . Would be really interested how you get on with this plug, plz keep us posted .

I drilled a recess in the end of the plug, then attached a magnet with JB weld, however I thought the later bikes were fitted with magnetic plugs?

You have a 10mm x 1.0 pitch drain plug. (same as the level check plug) About 10mm of length but you can be 1 to 2 mm longer .
