Broken bottom Yoke / Triple tree

Agree, there is a real possibility of a (serious) adverse outcome if any number of these faults manifest themselves whilst at speed. I still love this bike and it’s a keeper, but that feeling I get before a ride about whether it will make it back to the garage is a little disheartening at times.

I’ll ride for a few months trouble free, gaining confidence points as I go. Then something small will occur (random change in tick over, failed gear change bar etc) and those points are spent and need to be built up again. I usually just glance across at the Kato (which never lets me down) before each ride, check I’ve got my RACQ Gold Membership card and we’re off! Gonna add checking the yokes/triple tree to my pre ride checklist.
With me is.....I feel fortunate that what may occur to someone elses has not occured to mine.....but then it does, SO STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.
Also, Im never stranded............YET.

The bottom yoke turned up last week from Norton. The top yoke had arrived previously in January. They are obviously making these in house as I was updated on the manufacturing progress. along the way... it's in polishing... now at anodizing....

The one surprise is, as far as I can see there is no difference in the machining or the shape of the clamp area from the original. It is exactly the same as the original. I had understood that they knew this was an a "safety" issue and were offering an upgraded version. Clearly not. I haven't talked to Norton about it, I guess they are just supplying the correct original parts. Everything fits fine.

When I removed the old screws they were over tightened, as they required a good heft on a socket handle to loosen. The spec 20Nm is around 15 ft lbs - these were well above 25 ft lbs, maybe 30's. I think lesson here never assume it came from the factory correct, or that some knob along the way decided to nip them up good and tight. I would be checking the the torque on these for sure.

It either Sounds like a disgruntled employee was turning up the torque of the air gun, of forgot to set it to 15 pounds sq. in.

I just checked mine. I had to set the torque wrench at around 24 Nm to crack them, so luckily they seemed about right.

Just checked mine and loosened them by a quarter turn. Tightened by quarter turn and was 20 Nm so looks like mine were correct.

I may be the market for a set of those after finding this on my 2015 SF this morning.

Do you know details of availability and cost?

Hi Stuart, sorry to see this, but thanks your lucky stars you found it. Had you previously checked they were set at the correct torque? (20Nm)?
