At first, I thought it was the 6:00 news

Do people actually watch these sort of shows?

Older networks like ABC, NBC, CBS continue to cling to an antiquated template of production offerings, 80% of which suck.
The only viable viewing they offer anymore is sports based, including a lot of their game shows.
Meanwhile they barrage their few remaining viewers with any form of so called programming/entertainment they can muster while their ratings continue to plummet toward critical status and their audience shrinks toward the non-existent.
That's how you get shows like the one posted and a vast offering of half-assed remakes and reruns.
Can you say desperate?

Anyone remember a game show called Supermarket Sweep? You got a shopping cart and X amount of time to fill it with whatever you could cram in it. The contestant with the biggest dollar amount won.

For a clue as to where we are probably headed read this:

The best game shows are where the loser really loses.

I do remember that show. Most of the dummies participating would try to rack up their number with cases of of .39 cent soup. Every once is a while someone with a clue would head for the seafood case and fill their cart with lobsters and high cost beef cuts.

As bad as it may be , to my mind it pales in comparison to shows like “ Sister Wives” or “ Neighborhood Wars “ .
Who the hell wants to see adults bickering, fighting or worse …
this is entertainment? WTF …

I agree RT.
Yet there are thousands of viewers who slurp that garbage up.
Ad Agencies conduct research, polls, test groups researching who is watching what and when they are watching it. They perform this research in conjunction with their advertising clients products in order to target a specific market, align optimal exposure.
And, so very often a production for televising will be devised to sell their toe nail fungus treatment will be produced with these specific parameters as guidelines.
Explains a lot when you consider the quality of the programming offered, the viewers education level, the buying potential and the social demographic of the targeted viewing market .

I could not agree with you more.

There was a popular motorcycle building show that attracted more viewers by focusing on the father/son fighting rather than the motorcycle stuff . Sadly the producers push this for ratings and don’t care about the collateral damage to families.
I live on the coast and know the people featured on a commercial fishing show a few years back . The son of one of our friends was the “ greenhorn “ on the featured vessel and the producers made him a stooge and publicly made a fool of him when in fact he was a good young man .Thankfully the show only lasted a season or two . He suffered for years from this false image.

Daytime television is a thing I never use , couple young ladies that ran our our water treatment plant spent as time in front of tube ( Oprah W.) …. they always shocked when a unserviced pump failed etc. …. Most of their chatter had to do with whatever they watched , no boxing/hockey/football talk ….😉

The only game show, if you want to call it that, that I watch is Jeopardy, only because its graded by knowledge rather than greed or stupidity.. One thing I have noticed though, the younger the contestant the less they know about our immediate history. Three contestants, all in their mid/late 40s could not identify Dwight Eisenhauer's picture .....and they NEVER ask any Norton questions. :(

But more importantly, were they attractive? 😉
( putting tin hat on now )

Think they were nice ladies , average lookers , both had small babies at home … they had me track tools used on each fix and entered into maintenance program in ‘puter , they told me when I left that they had it so each morning the new maintenance person would have a sheet to work from with all jobs based on history I tracked … tools needed, special instructions , etc. a great idea …. When I got there they moved their cars away from lime silo as for each delivery as scrubber had malfunctioned yrs ago , ( they even had cars repainted by employer ) took me a day of reading as builds , a day of climbing around , a week waiting on parts and bingo good to go , I heard later they switched to polyphosphate not after and lime system was decommissioned …. progress …. another time maybe I tell story of settling ponds draining back into res. , treating the same garbage a continuously , haha!
