Did you see any of the hells angels there doing the security?
they look like school kids when you see film of them !!
I used to know some of them many years ago

At the time I didn’t take any notice of the security with nothing out of the ordinary happening to make me remember.
The loss of Brian Jones was sad and Mick Taylor seemed a bit too sensible to fit it.
One weird thing happened on the way there though. We stopped at a pub and the bartender was the head boy from my boarding school!

I've only been to one big name concert. It was November 3, 1968 at the Keil Auditorium in St. Louis, MO. Jimi Hendrix.

Throughout, everyone was screaming for Purple Haze. He announced that the next song would be the last and it was only the 6th song! Then he started the Star-Spangled Banner which became more and more psychedelic as it went on. Then, all of the sudden, it became Purple Haze and the crowd went wild.

For the non-believers, they were only three people on the stage and all that sound came from them!

Rode my 66 Triumph 500 with Energy Transfer ignition there - shockingly, it was still there when the concert was over but was stolen a year later.

I was there as well.
Center section seats halfway up and the combination of cigarette and pot smoke created an interesting type of haze.

My concert attendance spans from THE BEATLES in 1966 at Busch Stadium to Eric Clapton at the Enterprise Center 2023. I saw a lot of the big E, Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, Blind Faith etc.
So many concerts over the years, Stones, Zepplin, CSN, Stevie Ray, Lynard Skinner, Jimmy, Traffic, The Dead, The Cars, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues. Saw Jim Croce's last concert, he died later that night in a plane crash. And so many others, another reason I am sporting hearing aids.
But for concert goers my age we got to see the good bands.
The loudest?
Tie between The Who and Grand Funk Railroad. I bailed on the GFR concert, too loud and not good musically.
My sister found this in my closet, framed it and made it a BD present a long time ago.

My rock concert days were limited to first year or two at uni, saw a few big names for small money. After graduation saw Zappa a few times. And years later saw Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker in a small theatre.
That was about it. Some guys are just not cut out for having fun.

I saw Zappa in 74 or 75 in Trenton NJ. Years later my wife and I saw Dweezle Zappa doing his Zappa plays Zappa show. A few times during Dweezles show I closed my eyes and could easily believe I was back in Trenton.

Where in Trenton did you see Zappa? The war memorial? I saw him in 78 at the Spectrum in Philly.

Then came FM and WMMR …

RT, in the early 80's my sister was good friends with Jack Quigley "Action Jackson Quigley" of "The Morning Zoo" you know, John DeBella, Mark the Shark, Ray Koob aka "Vern the Fern", Big Daddy Graham, etc.. I've been down the studios 18th and Market a couple times. Met the crew. She even knew Michael Tearson. In 85 she said Jack just gave me 2 tickets to a private party on the "Spirit of Philadelphia" She said a band was playing called "Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumbler's" I never heard of them. They were just starting out. After that I became a fan. I only watched a set, I was too busy smoking hash with Ray and Jack on the third deck behind the pilot house. Tommy and I are friends to this day, Ray Koob was from Southampton, PA, new my uncle and cousins, played sports with them, went to WMGK, but back on WMMR. I have no idea where Jack is at?

Yes, I was to the Electric Factory once, but it wasn't until the 90's. I've been to so many concerts, every time I want to post, more come to mind. WTF. I never remembered my first concert until a buddy reminded me. It was Queen with Thin Lizzy opening at the Philadelphia Civic Center 77? It was Thin Lizzy's Jail Break Tour.

Remember Johnnys Dance Band?

Heard of them, but never seen them. In 89 or 90, Tommy formed "Tommy Conwell and the Little Kings" I got to be good friends with his Sax player, "Darryl Ray". Darryl played with DYNAGROOVE before playing with Tommy. Darryl played with Chubby Checker after Tommy, mostly tours. Chubby is from Philly.

I did security for the New Hope Lambertville Winter festival a few times. No Alcohol, no Smoking, so I didn't have to slap anybody down, but met some cool peeps. All musicians. Pierre Robert was there from WMMR, he was the M/C. I said" Hey Pierre, if you want to smoke a joint, knock yourself out, I have a few and I'm Security. It was a non smoking site.

He said he was good, today's weed is just too potent! Myself, I'm good with a shot and a beer.

Johnny's Dance band, there used to be a toll collector at the exit on the PATP "Spider" he was an editor and promotor for "Out on the Town", magazine also JDB. He would always give me a copy when I got off of PATP @ exit 29?

Darryl Ray, Tommy's Sax player always wanted me to come down to the "Wheels of Soul M/C" 1% clubhouse, 51st and Market. I always said thanks, but no thanks. I've been invited to plenty of "Pagan's M/C parties too... but I think it's better to stay away.

Wheels of Soul, first Ive heard of them since whenever. I remember seeing a guy they called President Cliff sitting on his bike on Sansom street a few times. Never really wanted much to do with any of the 1%ers. Out in Delco the Warlocks and Pagans were always taking shots at each other so it paid to steer clear. Never saw JDB live but MMR would play them often. I cant do weed either, just dont enjoy it any more.

My Dad went with his pal, they hitch hiked from Mansfield. En route a guy says to them “lads, dya want a crate of Newkie Brown for nowt”

Obviously they weren’t gonna turn that down, they didn’t know the bloke nor why he gave the beer away, but it helped them enjoy the concert!

I’m told that my Dad refused to take me… but I was only 1yr old !

They used to host national Acts as well as many from the Philly scene. They had pictures of all the artists hanging on the wall. I caught my first Tog on the rock pile at barnegat light in 1969. It was 20 in long and bent my boat Pole.

Rick’s is now the Daymark . Never spent any time in Rick’s . In the sixties there was an old heavy equipment yard / garage that became a music venue in Spray Beach - Le Garage. I saw Bruce Springsteen there.
Before that a folk trio played at a shopping center in Beach Haven .They were Timmy , Jimmy and Nancy - The Wharf Rats . Jimmy was (is) Jim Ibbotson of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band . As a boy I took guitar lessons at the LBI Arts Foundation in Loveladies. My teacher was friendly with the Wharf Rats and I got to meet and play guitar with Jimmy once .
I caught a lot of Weakfish around the base of Barnegat Light .
Bubblegum Pink Fin -S lure was the go to rig for Weakies .

Either of you Jersey guys remember a place in Sommers Point called the Anchorage Inn? You could get 7 8oz draft beers for a buck but you got them all at once. Place was always packed whenever i was there, a real meat market. Had to go there from Ocean City cause OC was a dry town back then. I loved NJs 18 year old drinking age.
