And the advantage to that over a Commando is...?

No Wet Sumping . :p

Threw a unit oil tank on the old pre unit , along with a breadbox Trident tank . Kink in the oil line once itd got to work had the ' smoke trail '
in the wake for the rest of the day . :x

one'd think it'd be just a wee bit lighter , perhaps . wonder wot balance factor he'd be running ? .
Makes sense if you had a good P.U. Tri engine & a blown Commando - in the shed . tradeing can
lead to bothers and delays . olde Days easy custom TriTon was redrill the lower engine mount plate hole
and knock up some front plates from cardboard - templates . Got the tilt of five deg. or so . Then theres
a head steady and a few incidentals like a exhaust . pretty Basic , a weekend'd see it on the road .

I agree with you there Matt, ie a good use of a spare Triumph motor and a blown Commando. And in my book that's the difference between a 'bitsa' (using up what you have) vs a 'special' (a deliberate choice of the 'best' components).
