Stupid question # 128 in a continuing series: Why are oil pumps so expensive? I know quality parts are not cheap, but it seems to me that the oil pump on a Norton is a reasonably easy thing to produce. I don’t see anything on the pump, which would require exotic machining. $500(us) seems high to me.

OK.....let me have it

Supply and demand. They tend to last a long time, thus low demand.

£180 in the UK $500 US ?

End of the day it's the heart of your motor and they do last a long time, don't they?

Cash

You can occasionally pick up used ones off ebay. I bought one for around $30 and I figured if it was rubbish no big deal? I then lapped the gear to get minimal enfloat, and replaced my original with the ebay one. My old one was Okay, so I could let you have it for the same as I paid. What is wrong with your pump?

Cheers Richard

Appreciate the input. I really don't need a pump. I was just amazed at the cost of a new one.
