It was a lot of fun , I used to live for doing wheelies at the beach , usually for about a mile ,I have a TL250 that was modified by blue wing honda it won 3 years national trials , frame altered steering head angle , the normal 1" shorter swing arm and engine raised and was stroked to 300 , cam had needle rollers , it was apart one time and I added a big bore kit and 350 valves had to make a new header , it goes pretty good lots of torque . 355cc

When I was 17 before I brought my Norton I also had a new TL 250 was my 3rd dirt bike, everywhere I rode that TL front wheel was always off the ground, wheel stands up hills, down hills, infact everywhere it was such a well balanced bike for wheel stands, I could get the front wheel up in 5th gear and could ride just on the back wheel for miles, it was so good.
It was also water proof could ride it through deep water as long as the air intake was out of the water nothing drowned it.
My good mate Don who had a 750 hot Commado/Featherbed loved riding it for hill climbs so one day we swapped bikes for the day he rode the TL around the old rifl range from the war years had lots of hill climbs there, I took the Norton for a good ride up in the Ranges, I was hook after that and 2 weeks later I had a brand new 855 Commando, the last of the kick start Norton, the TL got stolen a few months later and was recovered a week or 2 later, with a bent frame and a few other damage on it an so I sold it.
My mate Don was able to buy a TL250 a few years ago as he remembered how much fun he had back in the days on my TL 250.
Thanks for brining back the memories from the days of owning a great Honda TL250, mine had a light kit and was registered for the road, I even got my licence on that bike.

Have you got an original muffler box in the back of the shed ? , I bought a brand new, in the 90s I think TL tank , I still have it, it's in a box , it will get used soon , for a resto . Great little bikes .good memory's alright. Cheers

No I bought my TL250 back in early 1976 when I was 17 the local Honda dealer couldn't sell it an sat in the show room for a long time I traded my MT250 Elsinore for it at a greatly reduced price was my first 4 stroke dirt bike and with the first 3 low gears could ride it in places not many could and top gear was great on the road, it's only down fall was front and rear brakes wasn't very good.

I can tell you a power pipe from a early Honda XL100 will fit the TL250 they have the same size exhaust port.

Most of those mufflers rusted away , when I get to it, I will make a good replica , no problem I have a factory sheild to to make it look good , just a couple of maintenance jobs on my GL1000 steering head bearings and im chroming the handle bars, norton might get a new rear sprocket and axel this week , but need to check brake hub and assembled shoes for run out as it seems too squishy and they dont work very good . Cheers
