Tiny money when we're borrowing a Trillion at a time!

This is worth watching:

This is interesting, especially the slope at the last minute of the video:

If you haven't seen it, this might drive you crazy: https://www.usdebtclock.org/

At least, selling or even giving away US military hardware improves US employment. Over the last 20 years somewhat less but still the miliary mostly buys US and when they don't its close allies.

I'm much more annoyed at the current policies and handling of the economy in the last two years that have cost me in my investments more money than I made from 20-40 years old. That's the real loss - shrinking the common person's investments while printing more money (e.g., devaluing what you have).

Another great investment ?

It's the financial firm BlackRock. Ukraine announced Wednesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a video teleconference with BlackRock Chief Executive Officer Larry Fink. The pair apparently struck a deal to coordinate investment efforts to rebuild the war-torn nation.30/12/2022

Because "Mission Impossible" and "James Bond" and so on are movies, not reality.

The comment was a metaphor...tongue in cheek, still alive politically...the movie magic comparisons are all yours Greg.
I obviously didn't convey the intent of my question very well.
I do have a clue regarding the ramifications of taking out that psychotic little sociopathic drug addict.

This is a small excerpt from an economic newsletter that I subscribe to.

The larger, more comprehensive economic picture is more long term unchecked spending.
65% of all working families are now living paycheck to paycheck, and that gets worse as gas and food prices stay high, or go higher. For the average wage earner, life is getting tougher. Summer travel is likely to be a disappointment for the hotel and airline industries as inflation eats more savings and paychecks, and Covid lockdowns recede into history. Retail sales may have increases well at 3% in January, but don’t think this is a upturn in the economy. It will get worse from here, although a soft landing may now be possible.

I don't want to be the guy that regularly copies and pastes a copyrighted publication and forwards to another site, but decided this piece would be appreciated on this thread. Hope the author would agree.

Concerning Putins aggression against the Ukraine:

Ukraine is still a big unknown. Russia has begun its well advertised offensive, and is throwing bodies at the attack in huge numbers. They are getting mowed down by the hundreds every day. They are losing tanks and other armor in large numbers. None of that means the Ukrainians will be able to hold out and prevail. Chances are they may not be able to. Statements by Miley and Austin this past week that the Ukrainians are wining is nonsense and pure politics. We need to wait a few more weeks to see which way this goes. Tanks and other heavy armor from the US and NATO remain several weeks away and will not arrive to make the near term difference. We should give them a bunch of A-10s and Apaches and let them rip apart the Russians. The A 10 is not being sent because the ammo is spent uranium and Biden and the Pentagon are afraid that will push Putin to say it is a major escalation and now I can use a nuke. I find that reason to be ridiculous. UK Intel says Russia has committed 90% of its armed forces to this offensive effort. If true, and if the Ukrainians can hold out, Russia becomes a third rate military force, and Putin becomes more dangerous as he gets more desperate. The next month to six weeks will tell the story of Ukraine as the offensive unfolds or fails.

As potentially disturbing as such a large company and its influence may be, can we trust everything we read about them? BlackRock would say not - but then they would! A premise of this story is BlackRock’s purchase of single family homes in the US.

Which account is accurate?

And your point being ?
Why don't you go look at the magnitude of business they conduct and own. You know like pharmaceutical companies Military Arms including nukes.. oh and guns...look up Vanguard as well...cricky the even have financial influence in your Aussie Woolworths and your Australian pension funds...
BUT If you think they have a great reputation and for the good of the people .. then post all the good stuff about them then ?... waiting...

My point - it‘s really difficult in todays media environment and with the proliferation of mis/disinformation to establish what the truth is. I guess we all need to try, where we can, to identify what‘s accurate and what‘s not and also to use critical thinking to avoid confirmation bias. Difficult of course given that once a reader starts to consume a certain type of material, social media simply pushes them more and more of the same type - or more extreme content.

BlackRock is the largest asset management company in the world so inevitably, it has interests in almost every area. It’s publicly listed and so its shareholders have ownership of the share portfolios in those many companies (as I understand it) - I don’t believe BlackRock owns many (if any) of these major companies. Of concern I guess is that if the share holding is high enough, BlackRock gets voting rights on behalf of their shareholders. That is definitely open to abuse and the potential for undue influence in strategically important areas.

But, are BlackRock (and similar) operating within the law? I guess so. Is it useful or constructive to assume that because of their size, influence and the breadth of their interests that they have nefarious intent? Not in my opinion.

I don’t think anybody is claiming that BlackRock (and similar) are good corporate citizens.

GREAT...NOR AM I...
My critical thinking conclusion is......DOOM PROFITEERS...end of story..

The largest shareholder in America's largest gunmakers isn't a reclusive billionaire or a 2A rabble-rouser with a heavy Reddit presence. It's BlackRock, the investment giant that talks Wall Street's loudest game on social duty.27/05/2022

You may have missed the purpose of a discussion forum nopdog. This thread is one of many in the ‘pub’ section, allocated to subjects other than motorcycles. Occasionally contentious subjects come up, you know, like in the pub. Some contributors get a little more excited than others - it’s just the way it is.

You opted in to the content - no need to ‘stop it from appearing’. If the subject is of no interest to you at first glance, then just scroll on my friend.

Its a bar. A pub. A gathering point for exactly this type of discussion...at least until the barkeep says otherwise.

There are a whole lot of very interesting alternatives on this site if you look.
I participate here because I am interested in the international perspective/viewpoints offered.
I am not interested in another's passing judgement on the posts participants.
