Dear All,
Here below the picture/photo of what I bought from Andover.
Someone could help and let me know if i must fit or not the shim (CRANKSHAFT SHIM.003" NMT 2196A or WASHER NMT 2008, as in Andover web pictures) before the superblend bearing on the right halve of the 1971 crankcase?.

Shim with crankshaft bearing??

Measure the width of the bearing, it should be the same as the old one. But you should do a dry run and assemble the cases with the crankshaft and check for end play.

Hi Dave,
I read the Oldbritts article but i dont understood if is better to fit the large shim inside crankcase or the small shim on the Inner race of the bearing!!

Another question, please: the shim needs only on the right side of the crankcase?

The factory parts manual dont show the shim on the left side?, maybe.

Could i use again the old shim i found i to?.

Regards.

Ciao.

Piero

Ciao Piero,

From what I understood when assembling mine, shiming on crankcase side is easier and less stressing for the crank. You must do a dry run first to assess the needed shiming, and yes you can use the old ones but the end-play check is still mandatory.
What I did is use 0,1 mm and 0,2mm thick copper sheets to cut my own shims using the original pattern. Note that you can use the isolastics shims (front or rear I can't remember) if you've got some spare.

Tanti Auguri e buone feste !

I doubt if it matters which shim is used, like Fred says though, it's much easier to pull the bearing shell out of the crankcase than to pull the inner race off the crank, if needed to shim. It was just my understanding that the shims that go in the crankcase is hard to find in EU. I'm sure Fred would send them over the pond though. Only one trial fit should be needed to get it right. Notice that you must make sure the bearing shell is fully seated in the crankcase when test fitting.

Dear All thanks,
but the shim goes only on the right crankcase valve like the factory parts list or also on the left side?

Hello, Piero,
it is better to put shims on both sides , same value on right and left , or nearly..........
