Norton 961 video .

Yep, nothing new here, but his second vid on setting up the suspension may be of use to some. Another black bike fan of course!!

These VLOGS usually go in the ‘Facebook Fodder’ thread to keep them all together - you know, to make sure that Peebee doesn’t miss any 😁 !

My ‘old’ Commando with its 920cc and 11:1 CR BURSTS into life INSTANTLY when I touch the cNw electric start button.

As the chap in the video says, 961s ‘splutter into life like a Spitfire’.

And he’s right, looking at how much cranking a 961 takes to start, I do not believe you could start one with a kick start.

After its winter sleep my 961 needed a few tries on the starter, but apart from that it starts ok from hot or cold. These reviews are on demo bikes with low miles, maybe that is the reason for their 'slow' start ups.

The additional CCAs of the Shorai lithium battery do the job for me. Stick the Shorai BMS on charge and when it reaches fully charged - ignition on, always the same voltage on the Speedo display (13.2 v) and she starts immediately. The big old donk seems to like the additional umph!

Is the rectifier compatible for a Lithium battery? Many are not..
Subject has been done to death Bh - search ‘battery’ and read on.

Stu recommends switching to a Mosfet rec/reg. Many of us have been using Lithium (with an appropriate BMS) to good effect for years without difficulty, although a couple had batteries fail prematurely from memory.

The Shorai Li battery with Shorai BMS has served me well. Upgrading to a Mosfet rec/reg would no doubt reduce any compatibility risk.

My bike sits on ‘Store’ permanently, until I intend to start/ride. Charging immediately before riding ensures ‘peak performance’ as the BMS states - an oxymoron where the 961 is concerned admittedly!!😄
