Greetings all,

I've been lurking here a while and since the Norton bug has bitten I thought I would spend a little time here to see what I could learn.

I'm interested in this particular bike. Does any one here own it? I like the fact it has matching numbers, I like the Dunstall conversion, I like some of the original parts.

Nice bike, or keep looking?

The 16" rear wheel is a little weird but then the stock wheel is included. I'd be a little reluctant to call this a Dunstall conversion as it only has the fairing, fender and tank fitted. There are Dunstall mufflers but why aren't they on the bike. As the owner states, it needs some attention.

Still it has potential with the Dnstall/Norvil, Sparxs, Mikuni, etc. but it's hard to speculate on it's actual condition.
 
I did not see a rear brake. just a disc without a caliper.

I noticed he said it needs a rear brake, (don't know if he has it) and that it comes with the Dunstall megaphones. They are not on the bike but come as parts.

Are there any other Dunstall parts that should be on it or come with it?
 
It would be very weird to ride with the stock footpegs. Needs rearsets with the tank/seat/handlebar combo.

Rear brake with that mag wheel would need some fabrication for a caliper mount and master cylinder.

I think I would plan on lacing the stock hubs with stainless spokes and alloy rims .:wink: Then you avoid the headache of figuring out how to fab up a rear brake system.

As RennieK says the seat is a Norvil item, not Dunstall. You can see the rusty headlight mount in the fairing shot, so I don't think I'd count on a cosmetically appealing build.

A full Dunstall build of the era would include the special dual disc front end, different seat, rearsets with Dunstall mounting plates, and, of course, engine mods with alloy 810 barrels.

This is just a Commando with a Dunstall fairing, tank, and fender. Not that it is a bad thing. Personally I have had several different Dunstall parts and was less than impressed with design and quality. I do, however, like the Dunstall fairing better than the Norvil Production Racer one as it gives slightly more steering lock.

If you are in the area, I'd try to get a in-person look first.
 
I spoke with the owner at length about the bike as I only live about 80 miles from his location and as Ron mentioned I could preview the bike. He has moved on to a more ergo friendly Harley now because of knee problems. He seemed honest and was really friendly. I believe if you mailed him and gave him your # he would call and give you the skinny on the bike. I decided to concentrate on finding one already set up as a roadster or interstate so I could hopefully just jump on it and start riding. Good luck with your search.
